Quick Thoughts: If you've kept up with my weekly breakdowns at all, you know I'm a fan of off-kilter pop music, and especially when the idea itself is wholly deconstructed. Salvia is perhaps the latest iteration in that area, with an album of confusingly compelling anti-pop that sounds like it comes from a robot that loves you. Whether it's the title track or her cover of "Money" (that's what I want), it's a truly strange and wonderful album that I've already gone back to a few times. Give this a shot - it might not be your thing, but that's okay.

Album: Grand Salami Time!
Quick Thoughts: The Baseball Project exists to write rock songs about baseball. They're at their best when they're having fun, and this latest record is as fun as their first. Scott McCoughey and Steve Wynn handle a lot of the duties here, and the result is songs like "New Oh In Town" (about Shohei Ohtani) and "Disco Demolition" (about the infamous night at Tigers Stadium), with R.E.M.'s Peter Buck and Mike Mills alongside Linda Pitman to bring it all together. The songs are good enough where even non-baseball fans can find something to like, but if you're a big baseball nerd there are a ton of gems here.

Album: Vacationland
Quick Thoughts: If you ever wondered if Shovels and Rope should become more punk, Muddy Ruckus might want your attention. It's folky and rootsy, but with a sharp edge that makes it something a little more special along the way. The duo knows how to craft a great song, and if you like the raw roots stuff, this is worth your time.

Album: I Don't Know
Quick Thoughts: I don't know a ton about bdrmm, but this album from some UK musicians provides a shoegaze-meets-early-Radiohead sound that grabbed my attention this week. "It's Just a Bit of Blood" in particular is probably my favorite song this week, so check it out.

Album: i was mature for my age, but i was still a child
Quick Thoughts: grouptherapy. consists of three Los Angeles musicians who worked their way through the Hollywood wringer as child actors and have now made the most essential and interesting rap album of the summer. As one can tell from the title, the group pulls approximately zero punches, and the catharsis that comes with the delivery turns this into something so different and compelling that it demands you pay attention. Do not miss out on this, it's far and away my favorite rap album of late.
