The latest from Billy Dodge Moody sounds like a bright and summery song, but the subject matter is far less cheery. "Nobody" has the perfect indie pop meets alt-Americana song with some surf thrown in to be a summer hit. Everything in the song feels light and breezy, and it's endlessly sunny feeling. It's reminding me a lot of a more modern version of Gin Blossoms. It sounds like the perfect soundtrack for a trip to the beach, or just driving around with the windows down. As for the subject matter, I'll let Moody explain:
“‘Nobody’ explores the theme of emotional masking and the unseen struggles people carry. More specifically, it’s about watching someone close to you change – someone who once seemed confident and on top of the world suddenly revealing signs of inner turmoil. The song reflects on the difficulty of truly understanding what others are going through beneath the surface and how much can remain hidden, even from those who care most.”
You can listen to "Nobody" below. Ephemera is due out July 11. For more on Billy Dodge Moody, check out the artist's website. If you're around the Boston area in the fall, Moody will be playing at The Fallout Shelter in Norwood on November 15.
