The Venomous Pinks - "Apothecary Ailment"

Image
Photo by Jack Grisham Mesa, AZ's The Venomous Pinks are back with some of the most 90's punk you'll hear all year. "Apothecary Ailment" is the kind of song you would have heard back on the Warped Tour in the 90's. It's a heavy song, with driving guitars and drums along with screaming vocals, but there's also an unexpected melody and it's just starting to lean into poppy territory. It's the kind of fast and loud melodic punk bands like Pennywise and Bad Religion were just starting to creep into the mainstream with. This is really making me nostalgic for the summers of my college years. Guitarist/vocalist Drea Doll says of the band's new single: “‘Apothecary Ailment’ is a track about how consuming the cycle of addiction can be. I witnessed someone close to me struggle with severe addiction. It was a matter of life or death. The lyrics are a plea for them to choose life. I’ve had my own personal battles over the years, and facing one’s demons ...

The Venomous Pinks - "No Rules"

Image
Photo by Jack Grisham Arizona's The Venomous Pinks are back with new music! If you're a fan of theirs, "No Rules" is going to be perfect for you. The new song is exactly what we want from The Venomous Pinks. It's a punk rock song with insanely catchy pop hooks and dripping with attitude. As pop as it might lean, this is hardly pop punk or emo. "No Rules" is more like rock 'n' roll than pop, more in line with artists like Joan Jett & The Blackhearts and The Donnas. This is punk with huge guitars and even bigger hooks. Drea Doll (Guitar and vocals) says of the new song: ""No Rules" is a scorned love letter in song form that attempts to break the vicious cycle of a toxic relationship. It was a fun track to record, because regardless of what stage you are at in life, everyone can relate to a little heartbreak." You can watch the video for "No Rules" below. Vita Mors is due out June 3 on SBAM Records, and can be pre-s...

The Venomous Pinks Cover H2O

Image
H2O are just one of those bands. I got into them at my very first Warped Tour (1996?) and I've been into them off and on ever since, even if listening to them makes me feel ancient at times. Even so, there's no denying how iconic "5 Yr. Plan" is. That song will always suck me in no matter what my mood is, and it's deeply tied into some pretty great memories of my 20's.  Which is why I'm so thrilled with The Venomous Pinks covering "5 Yr. Plan." We already know their killer cover of Joan Jett's "I Want You," so we know they can rock a cover song with the best of them. This one is a remote quarantine cover, and their love of H2O and the original comes right through. It's a nearly note for note rendition, with the only difference being the gang vocal chorus is only two people. It's a fun cover, perfect if you love H2O, The Venomous Pinks, or both (which should be the case). You can watch the video of The Venomous Pinks...

The Venomous Pinks - "Todos Unidos"

Image
We've been huge fans of The Venomous Pinks's straight up punk infused rock 'n' roll. We discovered them with a Joan Jett cover, and they followed that up with a Joan Jett style rock song. Now we have "Todos Unidos" that destroys all of our expectations. This new song is much, much heavier than the previous ones. It sounds a lot more like Pennywise or Sick of it All than we could ever have expected. Certainly not a bad thing, and we do love when bands we had pigeonholed surprise us.  When you find out the inspiration for "Todos Unidos," the extra aggression makes sense. Guitarist vocalist Drea Doll explains the meaning behind the song: " People are fleeing from other countries to escape violence and poverty, hoping for asylum in the United States. I’ve never had to flee from a suppressive country, but can appreciate what my grandparents went through to better their lives when they left Mexico." Drummer Cassie Jalilie adds " Governme...

The Venomous Pinks - "Hold On"

Image
When we discovered AZ's The Venomous Pinks, they were covering the Joan Jett & The Blackhearts classic "I Want You." They're back with an original song, which guitarist/vocalist Drea Doll calls " A coming of age punk anthem that gives a lifeline for those struggling to keep a dream alive." "Hold On" is exactly what you'd expect from a band that burst into our consciousness via a Joan Jett cover. It's tons of punk attitude and edge, but also catchy and fun as hell. The Venomous Pinks are promoted as a punk band, and sure, this is punk. But it's more pure straight up rock 'n' roll than punk, like The Donnas or Supersuckers.  You can watch the video for "Hold On" below. The song will appear on The Venomous Pinks's upcoming album I Want You on Die Laughing Records . For more on The Venomous Pinks, check out their website .

The Venomous Pinks Cover Joan Jett & The Blackhearts

Image
Tempe, AR's The Venomous Pinks have chosen to cover the Joan Jett & The Blackhearts classic "I Want You." It's an incredibly faithful version of the original, but with crunchier guitars and maybe a little more of a metal edge to it. It's fast and played ferociously, just like it should be. Guitarist/vocalist Drea Doll says of the cover:  "I Want You is an in-your-face, unapologetic, punk rendition of Joan Jett & the Blackhearts’ timeless classic. We set out to infuse our unique style and uncontrived attitude to change up the cover while lovingly nodding to its original roots.” You can watch the video for "I Want You" below.
