Lucy Dacus Covers Wham!

Personally, I think it's far too early to post about Christmas music, but when it's Lucy Dacus covering Wham!'s "Last Christmas" (which I think we can all agree might be the greatest song ever recorded), I have no other choice but to post about it.

This is the final entry into Dacus's holiday singles series, and it's sure to be a classic. While I may not have agreed with her choice to cover "In the Air Tonight" for Halloween, her Christmas choice of "Last Christmas" couldn't have been better. In a press release, Dacus says" “I don’t really like Christmas. In the studio, we listened to the original of ‘Last Christmas’ and didn’t talk about an arrangement. I just told everyone to play it angry. This is what happened first take. It actually came out pretty fun, maybe a tad psychotic.” I don't know if I'd call it psychotic, but it's a much faster version of the original, stopping just barely short of punk. Well, maybe the spoken word parts are a tiny bit psychotic, but like a psychotic version of 60's girl groups spoken intros.

You can listen to Lucy Dacus's take on "Last Christmas" below. All of her holiday singles will be released on 2019, which will be released by Matador Records on November 8. You can pre-order a copy here. For more on Lucy Dacus, check out her website.
