Emily Frembgen - "Fentanyl"

Coming out of the New York City antifolk movement, Emily Frembgen just signed with Don Giovanni and released a new single. "Fentanyl" opens with the line "Two years doing nothing makes everybody crazy," which is an obvious reference to COVID. Unlike many songs about how quarantine affected, and continues to affect us all, Frembgen captures the bizarre feeling of that time period, along with how bizarre the world still feels. It's a folk song with a country twang and indie rock fuzz, along with an odd little sense of humor about the entire thing. (Frembgen booked comedy and music shows and the video was directed by SNL's Clare O'Kane.) "Fentanyl" is a great song to discover an artist that we're intrigued to hear more from in the coming months!

You can watch the video for "Fentanyl" below. Emily Frembgen's new album is due out in 2024 on Don Giovanni Records. For more on Frembgen, check out the artist on Instagram and Twitter.
