Palmyra Delran & Doppel Gang Cover Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich

Image
You may know Palmyra Delran from her time with The Friggs, The Ramdams, or The Coolies. Now she's back with her latest band, Doppel Gang. The latest single from Palmyra Delran & Doppel Gang is a cover of the 1960's classic "Hold Tight." If that doesn't sound familiar to you (or you don't think you've ever heard of Dave Dee, Dozy, Beaky, Mick & Tich), I assure you that as soon as you press play down below it will all come flooding back to you. "Hold Tight" is the kind of song that's embedded in your musical DNA, and if you ever went through an oldies phase you definitely know it. Delran's cover is a pure classic homage to vintage garage rock. It's all fuzzed out guitars and is fantastically tambourine heavy. Delran adds just the slightest modern sensibility to this version to keep it from being too identical to the original. This one is a lot of fun and is hitting multiple of my personal musical loves. Palmyra Delran says of he...

The Cocktail Slippers - "Joyride"

Image
Last year's show from The Cocktail Slippers at Midway Cafe was one of my 2025 musical highlights, and now the Norwegian band are back with a new single and a new singer. Sandra Szabo (aka Flame) joined the band earlier this year, and the band just released "Joyride." The line up change hasn't affected the band's sound, with the new song being a huge, arena ready garage rock meets glam track. The song sounds somewhat restrained, and it slinks along at a medium speed. This is just rock and roll for the sake of being fun, and that's exactly why we love The Cocktail Slippers. "Joyride" is a straight up rock song with enough of a pop injection to make it incredibly catchy. If you love rock and roll, you probably already love The Cocktail Slippers. Guitarist Stine Bendiksen (aka Rocket Queen) says of the band's new single: “' Joyride' is, not unlike songs such as ‘Highway to Hell’ by AC/DC, ‘We’re an American Band’ by Grand Funk Railroad and ‘H...

The Woggles - "Love Tick"

Image
The Woggles are one of those bands I'm convinced have been around much longer than they actually have. The garage rock band started out in the 90's, but I'm always convinced they come from the 60's or 70's. Their latest single, "Love Tick," will show you exactly why. It has that great vintage garage rock sound, and is just as groovy as anything from that era. It's rough around the edges but also as catchy and poppy as possible. If you grew up loving music from Nuggets compilations, "Love Tick" is worth your time to check out. (Plus, the name The Woggles sounds like it belongs on a British Invasion band!) Guitarist Peter Greenberg says of the band's latest single: “Our bands touring together in the past built a friendship that led to us writing songs during the pandemic.  ‘Love Tick’ tells the story of [frontman "The Professor" Might] Manfred’s attraction to ladies worldwide.” You can listen to "Love Tick" below. Stop a...

Jessie Wagner featuring Rocco of the Snow - "Christmas with Me"

Image
This upcoming Friday sees the release of It's a Wicked Cool Christmas , a holiday compilation from Wicked Cool Records. The first single from the album is "Christmas with Me," a new single from Jessie Wagner featuring Rocco of the Snow. This is a great holiday single in the vein of "Christmas (Baby Please Come Home)." It's a more updated sound than Darlene Love's classic, leaning into the genres of soul and R&B. Wagner takes a classic R&B sound and updates it just enough to avoid being a complete throwback. "Christmas with Me" is the kind of bright and upbeat song we need during the holiday season, especially this year.  Jessie Wagner says of her holiday single: “‘Christmas With Me’ is a fun, retro bop full of holiday cheer. Grab your favorite hairbrush turned microphone, throw on your reindeer pj's, and get ready to dance around the Christmas tree, singing this soon to be holiday classic.”  You can watch the lyric video for "C...

The Chevelles - "Caveman"

Image
Australian surf/punk/garage legends The Chevelles are celebrating their thirty-fifth year, and have a new single out. "Caveman" is a raw and catchy song that incorporates all three genres equally. There's a sense of menace to the song, but in an especially fun way. How can you not have fun with a song that includes the classic "Oogaga, oogaga, oogaga" reference? As soon as the guitar kicks in for "Caveman," you'll know you're going to love this one. This is classic garage rock at its absolute finest, with only production quality (and the blistering guitar solo) revealing that it's a modern track. Bassist/co-founder Jeff Halley says of the band's longevity: “We’re louder, older, meaner … and still having fun.” You can listen to "Caveman" below. The single is out now on Wicked Cool Records. For more on The Chevelles, check out the band's website .

The Dollyrots Cover Lesley Gore

Image
Covers are typically a good time, and you're not going to get much more fun than the latest from The Dollyrots. The band have released a punked up cover of Lesley Gore's feminist anthem "You Don't Own Me." If you're familiar with The Dollyrots, you can probably predict what this sounds like. It might be faster and heavier than Gore's original, but it keeps the spirit and melodies of Gore's intact. The Dollyrots have always been a fun, good time rock and roll band with some punk elements, and this is exactly what they give us with "You Don't Own Me." Singer/bassist Kelly Ogden says of her band's latest single: “ The song is an anthem for female empowerment, about willing to be defiant in the face of something that’s just plain wrong. Sadly, it’s still just as timely as when Lesley sang it over 60 years ago." You can listen to The Dollyrots' version of "You Don't Own Me" below. The song is out now on Wicked Cool R...

The Cocktail Slippers - "Back Where You Belong"

Image
If you love rock and roll, you probably already love The Cocktail Slippers. The Norwegian band recently released a brand new single, "Back Where You Belong." The song is a throwback to the classic huge rock of the 1970's, but updated with a modern pop sheen. This is a huge rock song steeped in glam and garage rock that is going to make you pump your fist whether you want to or not. It's a throwback classic rock style track, without any of the cringe-worthy factors that can sometimes stop you from enjoying a fifty year old song. Throw up your fist and enjoy the hell out of The Cocktail Slippers' latest! The Cocktail Slippers say of their latest single: “‘Back Where You Belong’ is an ode to touring! The feeling you get when you hit the road again with new songs to play, the excitement of meeting new people, crowds, and fans. We belong on stage; we love new adventures and playing live shows. Roll down your car window, lean your elbow out and feel the wind in your hai...

The Len Price 3 - "Emily's Shop"

Image
Despite only being a band for twenty-five years, I'm always convinced The Len Price 3 are a classic UK garage group from the 60's. While many of their 00's garage rock peers went with a more amped up sound, they've perfected that vintage sound. Everything about their latest single, "Emily's Shop," screams classic British invasion. It's filled with harmony (including some fantastic "doo doo doo doo"s) and the kind of guitars that would eventually inspire punk. It's hard to believe that their contemporaries are The White Stripes and The Hives and not The Kinks. If you grew up with your local oldies station and loved Nuggets compilations, you'll end up adoring "Emily's Shop." You can listen to "Emily's Shop" below. Misty Medway Magick is due out in October on Wicked Cool Records. For more on The Len Price 3, check out the band on Facebook and Instagram .

Soraia - "So Holy"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek Philadelphia's Soraia are a no nonsense rock and roll band. The quartet's latest single, "So Holy," is a hard rock song with no bells and whistles. It's the kind of song that's going to remind you of artists like Joan Jett and The Stooges. This is the kind of rock song that is just fun to listen to. It's loud and fast and heavy, but also surprisingly catchy. "So Holy" is a little punk and a little metal, but it's all rock and roll, and sometimes that's just what you need. Crank this one, bang your head, and pump your fist... Soraia is back with new music! Lead vocalist ZouZou Mansour says of the band's upcoming EP: “We had a lot to say on this set of songs. We looked outward at the injustices in the world, but we also looked inward, addressing topics like feeling like, at times, we had to conform as artists. Doing this EP was liberating.” You can watch the video for "So Holy" below. Confessions from ...

The Earls of Babylon - "My Little Frankenstein"

Image
Some of my favorite things are forgotten vintage garage rock and Halloween themed music. The Earls of Babylon had a regional hit in Chicago in 1966 with "Hi Ho Silver Lining," and haven't released new music since 1967. After Jeff Beck made "Hi Ho Silver Lining" into a big UK hit, the band got discourage and broke up. Now, nearly sixty years later, they're back with "My Little Frankenstein." This new song sounds like the band only took five years off instead of five decades. It sounds like a long lost garage rock novelty song. It's raw, and groovy, and insanely fun. Plus, The Earls of Babylon add a liberal use of theremin, which is always welcome. "My Little Frankenstein" is just perfect for fans of vintage garage rock and novelty Halloween songs.  You can listen to "My Little Frankenstein" below. The single is available now via Wicked Cool Records, and can be ordered here .

The Woggles featuring Rick Miller - "Top Shelf"

Image
Even though they just released a brand new album earlier this year, garage rock legends The Woggles have released a new single that wasn't included on Time Has Come. "Top Shelf" features Rick Miller from Southern Culture on the Skids on guitar, and it shows a different sound than their latest album. The song sounds kind of like a more rock n roll version of the 90's swing revival. It also has a foot in 1950's rock n roll, but doesn't quite sound like that style of throwback. It's a fun drinking song, which is fairly obvious based on the song title. If you love old school rock n roll and swing, "Top Shelf" is going to be a blast for you. You can listen to "Top Shelf" below. The single is out now on Wicked Cool Records. For more on The Woggles, check out the band's website .

Joy Buzzer - "You'd Be Surprised"

Image
Photo by Linda Rizzo Sometimes killer rock and roll comes from an unlikely place. New York City's Joy Buzzer just released a fantastic new power pop single. The band formed in 2021 and is led by guitarist and songwriter Jed Becker. If you watch your kids' shows closely, you might recognize Becker as the composer and music director of Dora the Explorer and Go, Diego, Go! None of that sound is present in their latest single, "You'd Be Surprised." The new single is just pure power pop joy in the vein of an artist like Fountains of Wayne. It sounds like the kind of power pop that was made in the 90's that was inspired by the 60's. It's undeniably catchy and poppy, but with a little of that 90's alternative rock edge to it. Joy Buzzer are crushing it right now, and we're looking forward to hearing more from the quartet. Jed Becker says of the band's latest single: “The narrator of this little tale hasn’t hit bottom yet…but he’s certainly close t...

The Chesterfield Kings - "Fly the Astral Plane"

Image
Photo by Sue Kane Garage rock legends The Chesterfield Kings are back with a new single. If you'd assume that a song called "Fly the Astral Plane" would be a more psychedelic track, you'd be assuming correctly. This one is a psychedelic garage rock revival song with effects heavy guitars. The song still has plenty of pop hooks up against the garage rock and psychedelic sounds, which gives the whole thing an Archies meets The 13th Floor Elevators vibe. The Chesterfield Kings are perfect for those of us who just love vintage garage rock and/or the current revival of that style. Frontman Andy Babiuk says of the band's new single: "I wrote the 'Fly The Astral Plane' with a more psychedelic approach. The lyrics can have a double meaning depending on what you’re into. But if you close your eyes and listen, you’ll get there…” You can listen to "Fly the Astral Plane" below. The single is out now on Wicked Cool Records with a B-side of "So Sad A...

The Dollyrots - "Wrapped In Sunshine"

Image
Photo by Jen Rosenstein "Wrapped In Sunshine" is the perfect name for the latest from The Dollyrots. The song screams summertime and sunshine. It's a pop punk song leaning heavily towards the pop side of the genre with one foot planted squarely in garage rock. At times it's almost too pop, but The Dollyrots have a magical ability to never cross that line too far. The whole thing reminds me of Go! era Letters to Cleo mixed with 80's Ramones with surf guitars. We've been bringing you a lot of perfect for summer songs lately, but when one is as great as "Wrapped In Sunshine," how can anyone resist? You can listen to "Wrapped In Sunshine" below. The single is out now with a B-side of a cover of Bonnie Tyler's "Holding Out for a Hero" via Wicked Cool Records. For more on The Dollyrots, check out the band's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the songs. June 14 at the Funhouse in Seattle, WA with Diesel Boy June 15 at Twili...

Nervous Eaters - "Rock n Roll Your Heart Away"

Image
Nervous Eaters are a legendary garage rock punk band from Boston that continue to put out fantastic music fifty years into their career. Their latest single, "Rock n Roll Your Heart Away," is a tribute to The Rat, the long lost Boston punk club that launched many vital bands in the 70's and 80's. The song is a bluesy rocker that sounds a little like if The Cars played piano more than synths. It's not exactly a punk song, but it's a touching tribute to the classic punk scene of Boston and what Kenmore Square used to be. Plus, it's a perfect showcase as to how great Nervous Eaters continue to be. You can listen to "Rock n Roll Your Heart Away" below. Rock n Roll Your Heart Away , the album, is due out August 23 on Wicked Cool Records. For more on Nervous Eaters, check out the band's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the song. Saturday, June 29th Press Room Portsmouth NH  w/ Tiger Bomb Saturday September 7 The Music Room, West Yarmouth, ...

Nervous Eaters - "Don't Need to Make You Mine"

Image
Boston's Nervous Eaters have settled into an amazing new chapter in their career, and we're here for it. The band started off in the punk scene of the late 70's, and while their music has slowed down over the decades, it still packs a punch. Their latest single, "Don't Need to Make You Mine," is more power pop than punk, but they throw in enough garage rock grit to keep it at least punk adjacent. It sounds a little like a lost 80's rock song with its earnest lyrics and impossibly catchy... well, really everything. This is shiny power pop at its most earmworm friendly, and what else could you possibly want in a rock song? Guitarist and songwriter Adam Sherman says of the new single: "The song is about loving your partner without limits. Harmonious relationships must have freedom as a guiding principle. Embracing the desires of those closest to us allows our loved ones to show their brilliance and seek their true calling." You can listen to "D...

Soraia Covers Blondie

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek It feels like it's been a while since we brought you a cover song, so we can't pass up the latest single from Soraia. The Philadelphia rockers just released their version of "Union City Blue," which is a song I didn't recognize by name but instantly recognized as soon as it started. I've been a huge fan of their high intensity garage rock for a few years now, and this shows off another side of the band. Their version of "Union City Blue" stays intensely true to the original, just a little louder and and with slicker/more modern production. If you're unfamiliar with the fantastic sound of Soraia, this new single will have you delving deep into their back catalog. Frontwoman ZouZou Mansour says of the band's latest single: "I've wanted to cover 'Union City Blue' since I first heard it on the 'Sid and Nancy' soundtrack album I bought back in 2016. I loved that movie--starring Gary Oldman and Chlo...

The Jellybricks - "All About You"

Image
Harrisburg, PA's The Jellybricks formed in the late 90's and play a very distinct style of power pop. The band's latest single, "All About You," borrows from four decades of power pop. It has elements of 60's and 70's power pop, especially with its sugary melodies. Some of the guitarwork in the song has a very distinct 80's sound, like Tommy Tutone or The Knack. It's all put together in a way that's reminding me a lot of 90's era power pop, in particular Fountains of Wayne. The Jellybricks are just fun power pop with a little of the edge of garage rock, which is what you truly want with the genre. You can listen to "All About You" below. The single is out now on Wicked Cool Records. For more on The Jellybricks, check out the band's website .

Soraia - "Bang Them Bones"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek Philadelphia rockers Soraia have released a new single that is just pure rock and roll. "Bang Them Bones" is that kind of no nonsense rock that we tend to love here at If It's Too Loud... It's garage rock, but an amped up, stadium ready version of the genre. It's the kind of music that is all killer riffs, with frontwoman ZouZou Mansour just oozing cool with her vocals. The only thing that could make a song like "Bang Them Bones" any cooler of a rock song would be a burst of pyro during the chorus. If you're into metal adjacent garage rock, check out the latest from Soraia. ZouZou Mansour says of the band's latest single: "We love recording while we're touring in Sweden--and have done so every time we go. It always feels like we're just a little more 'beat up' mid-way through our tours there, so it's a good time to get some honest representation of ourselves recorded. This one was another song wri...

Nervous Eaters - "Vampire"

Image
My love of Nervous Eaters is well documented on If It's Too Loud... The Boston punk/garage rock veterans have been having a resurgence lately, and I couldn't be happier. Their latest single, "Vampire," isn't quite a punk anthem like they were releasing back in the 70's. Instead, it's more of a jangle pop meets power pop song in the lines of their more recent releases. There is still that garage rock edge to "Vampire," but Nervous Eaters are softening it a bit with some 60's psychedelia and modern power pop sounds. Boston is undoubtedly one of the best garage rock/power pop scenes in the world, and Nervous Eaters continue to be one of the best reasons why. Frontman Steve Cataldo says of the band's new single: "In a once vibrant town, business by day, swinging by night, always had its own unique rhythm. Strange and without reason, the pace of the small bustling California borough, somehow slowed to an unearthly rhythm. Most of the youn...
