Gwen Levey and The Breakdown - "Barefoot & Pregnant"

As soon as "Barefoot & Pregnant" kicks in, you're going to know if you're going to like the song or not. Nashville's Gwen Levey and The Breakdown's latest single has that honky tonk sound you either love or hate. What's truly unique with "Barefoot & Pregnant" is that it's a honky tonk song about women's right to choose and lefty politics. It's about the abortion bans popping up in the states you would normally associate with this style of music. And at this point, you don't get more punk rock than a woman singing a country song in favor of her right to choose.

Gwen Levey says of her new single:

“That was such a dark day. It’s a very personal issue for me and most women. I was a child who was sexually assaulted. So, everything that's been happening hit me really hard, especially here in Tennessee, which has the strictest abortion ban. That even if you're a child, you can't get help for anything like that. The song has a serious social commentary, but I wanted it to still be fun so it’s more accessible. You have to be brave to sing that in the south.”
