Flummox are a queer/transfemme band out of Nashville. Their latest single, "Always Something Going Down," is a genrefluid track that is recalling a very specific period of heavy music for me. The song is a hard rocker edging into metal, but it's also highly funky and some killer base. I'm heaving some very early Red Hot Chili Peppers, a ska-less Fishbone, and a merger between Faith No More and Mr. Bungle. The song is kind of batshit at times, and I mean that as a compliment. This is the type of song that may confuse you at first, but the longer you stick with it the more you're going to get it and enjoy it.
You can listen to "Always Something Going Down" below. Southern Progress is due out April 11 on Needlejuice Records, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp. For more on Flummox, check out the band on Facebook and Instagram.
