If It's Too Loud...

Photo by Andrea Fiumana One of the subgenres that's been taking over shoegaze lately is heavy shoegaze, and one of our favorites in that sound is Mondaze. The Italian band have released a new single titled "Lines of You." It has all of the fuzz, dreamlike qualities, and droning vocals you need for shoegaze, but the drums in the song are absolutely pounding. Some artists in the genre lull you with a softer sound, but not Mondaze. This new song demands your attention in a way usually associated with heavier music, but "Lines of You" is heavier music. But, it's also shoegaze.  You can watch the video for "Lines of You" below. Linger is due out November 22 on Bronson Recordings, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp . Our latest discovery is Italy's Mondaze and their new single "Linger." The song isn't particularly fast, but by shoegaze standards is practically hardcore. The drums are heavy, and guitars are noisy, there's a metal style breakdown in the middle, and the entire thing is awash in the traditional haze of shoegaze. There is some of the beauty associated with the genre, but for the most part "Linger" is a heavy rock song that is also shoegaze.  You can listen to "Linger" below. Trophy Wife (formerly of Allston, now based in Brooklyn) have released a cover of The Cranberries' immortal song "Linger." The cover stays remarkably close to the original. It's a much more stripped down version with singer McKenzie Iazetta, an acoustic guitar, and Christian providing some backing vocals. The cover has a certain intensity to it that The Cranberries' didn't. Dolores O'Riordan always had a plaintive, melancholy sound to her voice on "Linger," while Iazetta sounds more forlorn and desperate. This is a great version of a great song.
