Photo by 1upcloud Back in October we brought you "Snooze You Lose," the latest single from Toronto psych-goth band Hot Garbage. Now they're back with "Mystery." I described the previous single as a cross between early Sonic Youth, A Place to Bury Strangers, and The Jesus & Mary Chain. "Mystery" still has the dark shoegaze sound of The Jesus & Mary Chain, but has more of the psychobilly and punk sound of The Cramps. It's a great mixture of sounds perfect for fans of shoegaze, punk, or just dark music in general. I hesitate to call this song fun, but it is in its own way. "Snooze You Lose" is this dark, heavy indie rock song that we're going to describe as psych-goth. It sounds like a cross between early Sonic Youth, A Place to Bury Strangers, and The Jesus & Mary Chain. It's a song that rocks as hard as it grooves, with plenty of drone and pummeling drums. Plus, there's a deep sense of foreboding throughout the entire track. But, "Snooze You Lose" can just work as a heavy rock track, if that's the kind of thing you're into. Hot Garbage says of their new single: "The song is about how time passes when you stand still. Sometimes all you can do is laugh." You can watch the video for "Snooze You Lose" below.
