Mourn Covers The Replacements

Image
This has been a very covers heavy week at If It's Too Loud..., but we consider that to be a great thing. Barcelona's garage punk band Mourn have a new EP coming out today (maybe?), and it features a version of The Replacements' "Color Me Impressed." Mourn's version somehow does two seemingly separate things at once: It's both noisier and more poppy. It might be since while there is a lot more noise behind the song, it's a far more produced and polished version than the original. Plus, they speed it up just a bit more. It keeps the song their own while still being true to the original. Sure, it may not have the same raw power as The Replacements version, but this one is just pure pop punk fun. You can hear Mourn's cover of "Color Me Impressed" below. You can pick up your own copy of their new EP, Over the Wall , here . For more on Mourn, check them out on Facebook . Over The Wall by MOURN

The I Don't Cares - "1/2 2 P"

Image
I doubt I would be this excited about a song that's apparently about having to urinate during a romantic interlude, but when the song is a collaboration between Paul Westerbeg and Juliana Hatfield, exceptions can be made. I mean, I had no idea this was in the works, and it's PAUL WESTERBERG AND JULIANA HATFIELD. "1/2 2 P" starts off with just a guitar and Westerberg and Hatfield harmonizing perfectly. It's both not what I expected from them and exactly what I want from a Westerberg/Hatfield pairing. I never would have picked them as dream collaborators, but holy shit was I wrong. Apparently there is also a forthcoming album. No word on when, but it certainly won't be soon enough. You can listen to The I Don't Cares first song, "1/2 2 P," below. Maybe if you check out the respective websites of Paul Westerberg and Juliana Hatfield , you'll catch some breaking news on The I Don't Cares.

Boston Calling Unveils Their Ridiculous September Line Up

Image
I mean... seriously? Look at that line up. I don't care what Boston Calling has had before, this roster may never be topped ever again. Plenty for old fogies to check out without feeling self conscious (The Replacements, Neutral Milk Hotel, Nas + The Roots, The Hold Steady, Spoon) plus a chance to see some of the up and comers we've been obsessed with without being the Creepy Old Guy. I've wanted to check out Childish Gambino and Girl Talk for a while now, and this may be the chance! And you can check out this Lorde character without being the only adult without a child. Plus, I mean, The Replacements! Neutral Milk Hotel! Nas + The Roots would be kick ass enough by themselves, but Nas with The Roots as his backing band???? Insane. I think The National might be the weak link as far as headliners go, but considering they curated the thing, I can let it slide. The September 2014 edition of Boston Calling takes place in City Hall Plaza on September 5, 6, & 7. 3 Day and ...

The Replacements played their first show in 22 years last night

Image
Unfortunately, I'm nowhere near cool enough to have been able to fly up to Toronto to see The Replacements play their first show in 22 years at Riot Fest, but I wanted to make sure everyone could see the best coverage out there. Slicing Up Eyeballs is putting together an incredible archive of Tweets, pictures, and are piecing together the setlist through videos posted on YouTube. I'm sure you're not even reading this and have already clicked the link. Don't forget, the Replacements are also playing additional Riot Fests in Chicago on September 15 and Colorado on September 21. Hopefully there will be an actual tour to follow.
