"The Lake" is a folk-ish singer-songwriter track that builds from a quiet contemplation to an epic close. It's a relatively mellow and subdued song that hides its true power in how reserved it is. Harner's vocals are the true powerhouse of the song, with Jamison expertly backing her up. As laid back as "The Lake" is, it carries a certain tension that makes it anything but dull. This is the style of song that drags you in deeper and deeper with every note and lyric. Harner is quickly becoming one of the best voices in the Boston pop scene. "False Alarm" fits into the folk and singer-songwriter categories with a lean towards pop, but the single is so much more than that. The song has a surprising complexity to it while being a truly beautiful song about homesickness. The Berklee School of Music student uses a fingerpicked guitar style that instantly grabs you, along with her gentle and intimate vocals. "False Alarm" can be enjoyed for its complexity as well as just being a pleasant and enjoyable song.
