Juliana Hatfield Covers Olivia Newton-John's "Physical"

Image
Photo by David Doobinin "Physical" is the song by Olivia Newton-John I most relate to her. That song was everywhere back in the early to mid 80's, and since it had an aerobics inspired video, it's always the go to for anything set in the 80's that needs an aerobics scene.  Needless to say, once the tracklist was revealed for  Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John, I could not wait to hear her version of "Physical." The song is now available to listen to, and let's just say it does not disappoint at all. It seems more like an Evan Dando cover since it's more than a little noisy and sloppy. Of course, that isn't meant as an insult at all, and you can tell Hatfield is having a blast covering one of her idol's most iconic songs. Plus, it features a mind blowing guitar solo that you don't always hear in Hatfield's music.  You can watch the video for Juliana Hatfield's version of "Physical" below.  Juliana Hatf...

Juliana Hatfield Covers Olivia Newton-John

Photo by David Doobinin Last week we told you the unbelievably fantastic news that Juliana Hatfield was not just covering a single song from Olivia Newton-John but was releasing an album of Olivia Newton-John covers. This week, we can finally get a better idea of what that will sound like with the release of a video for her version of "A Little More Love." It's a Newton-John song I'm not very familiar with, but it did come out in 1978 which would pre-date my early love of Newton-John. Hatfield's version of the song brings in the ever so slightly noisy post-grunge singer/songwriter sound we want from Hatfield, but with just enough shimmer and gloss that you'll find on the original. God, this album can not come fast enough. You can watch the video for Juliana Hatfield's version of "A Little More Love" below.  Juliana Hatfield Sings Olivia Newton-John  will be available April 13 via American Laundromat Records. A dollar from each album sold wi...

Juliana Hatfield Will Be Covering Olivia Newton-John

In my single digit years, I don't think I loved a singer as much as Olivia Newton-John. I listened to the Grease  soundtrack obsessively, which is now disturbing since it includes the phrase "pussy wagon," but that's a whole different story. Olivia Newton-John absolutely dominated the early 80's, and I feel like her song "Physical" was played at every one of my mom's aerobics classes I was dragged to. She was the soundtrack of my early youth. In the 90's, it might have been Juliana Hatfield. Being from the Boston area, her songs were prevalent on every radio station, I saw her an impossible amount of times in my college years, and this is without any complaints. Well, my two worlds will be colliding on April 13 when Juliana Hatfield releases an entire album of Olivia Newton-John covers. I absolutely love it when an artist expresses a gushing fandom for their heroes, particularly when their heroes don't exactly fit into what's consider...
