Parlour Bells - "Slasher Movie Weather"

Image
Boston's Parlour Bells have released a new single that's an homage to the slasher films of the 1980's, and the sound fits the vibe perfectly. "Slasher Movie Weather" is more of the glammed up rock that is everything we love about Parlour Bells, but with a darker vibe. Although the vibe is darker, "Slasher Movie Weather" is a ridiculously fun song. Maybe it's just the accompanying video, but the song does have a strong 80's feel to it. Despite not sounding like your stereotypical 80's song, this could very well be the theme song to a forgotten slasher classic. If you love glam rock and/or vintage slasher movies, you're going to adore this one. Singer Goddamn Glenn says of his new song and video: "One of my guilty pleasures on a sweltering summer night is sitting in my office with the AC cranked watching some of the lousiest, cheesiest slasher movies from the 80s." You can watch the video for "Slasher Movie Weather" belo...

Live Shows: Happy Little Clouds, Lovina Falls, and Parlour Bells, The Rockwell, Somerville, MA 7/6/24

Fourth of July is a weird weekend in Boston. The city is chock full of tourists, a lot of locals are on vacation, and those that stay in the area can be wiped out. I was in the wiped out category, but I couldn't let myself miss the triple bill of Happy Little Clouds, Lovina Falls, and Parlour Bells! Parlour Bells opened the evening, and it was my first time seeing them. For a show like this, The Rockwell will keep the floor free for standing/dancing and have the seats available on the sides and back for anyone that prefers sitting. It could be that the audience attracted an older crowd, or everyone was still recovering from the Fourth, but everyone decided to hang out in the seats. (That's not to say that the crowd wasn't great, as there was more lively applause for all three bands than I usually see at a local rock showcase.) Singer Goddamn Glenn is always a joy to see perform live and is one of the most natural frontpeople in Boston. Their set is just killer glammed up ro...

Parlour Bells - "Knight Owls"

Image
One of the surest ways to tell a band is going to kick ass is if it features Goddamn Glenn on vocals. Parlour Bells are one of those bands, and they are back with a new single. The Boston band have been kicking around for fourteen years and are one of the most beloved bands in town, and "Knight Owls" will show the newly converted exactly why. The song "... takes aim at the scene sycophants and phonies who too often take the fun out of being an artist." The song is dripping with venom, but it's also heavy on the glam, so it's fun as hell. I don't think I've ever heard a song that's this cynical that's also this much fun, but that's part of the magic of a band like Parlour Bells.  You can listen to "Knight Owls" below. To Be or Not to Behave is due out later this summer. For more on Parlour Bells, check out the band's website . The band is also playing this Saturday July 6 at The Rockwell in Somerville with Lovina Falls and Ha...
