Low Harness - "Bloodplay"

Image
Photo by Matt Martin I thought I had Cornwall's Low Harness pegged as a band. Their previous two singles were these gloriously aggressive bursts of early indie rock noise, and since that's kinda my thing, I loved them for it. Their latest single, "Bloodplay," goes off in a slightly different direction. The song still has some of the Sonic Youth style guitar tunings, but it's much more pop sounding than "Salvo" or "Too Long Together." The starts off more in the style of The Vaselines before devolving into a noisier style that we had begun associating with Low Harness. Even at its most noisy, "Bloodplay" keeps that pop sensibility, erupting into a poppier sounding noise explosion (which will make sense when you listen promise!) Vocalist/guitarist Hannah Gledhill says of the band's new single and video: "Bloodplay is about the lengths people go to for pleasure, to escape from the banality of everyday existence and act out their ...

Low Harness - "Too Long Together"

Image
Photo by Clare Quarton The latest from Low Harness might be the catharsis we all need right now. "Too Long Together" starts off with this sense of melancholy. It sounds like it's going to be a Cure-esque song, and we would have still loved it if it stayed in that tone. As the song kicks in, it gets a little heavier and more rock based. And then it changes into this fantastic 80's Sonic Youth style song (particularly the guitars) meets a more modern, pop focused sound. It's interesting hearing the chugging and wild early alternative style guitars mixing with a more modern style. As with their previous single "Salvo," "Too Long Together" is a thrilling song that has us desperate to hear more from Low Harness. Hannah Gledhill (vocals, guitar) says of the band's latest single: "Two Long Together is the acknowledgement of when a relationship is over and isn't going to work, and the longer you leave it the worse the inevitable feels. Thi...

Low Harness - "Salvo"

Image
Hailing from Cornwall, Low Harness formed last year when the four members met at Fish Factory Arts Space in Falmouth. The band's new single, "Salvo," is an intense indie rock song that recalls the No Wave of Sonic Youth. The songs just have a certain tuning we don't hear all that often, and the bursts of aggressive noise are glorious. It's the type of song that just chugs towards you while Low Harness attempt to keep the whole thing together. "Salvo" sounds like it could fall apart at any minute. By the time Hannah Gledhill's vocals kick in, her hypnotic quality helps alleviate some of the anxiety the music has most certainly caused. Buckle up for this one, folx! You can watch the video for "Salvo" below. Salvo , the album, is due out December 6 on Krautpop!, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp .
