Jackson+Sellers - "Hush"

Image
Photo by Ashley Osborne Despite my expectations, I've adored the two previous singles from the duo Jackson+Sellers, aka Aubrie Sellers and Jade Jackson. Their previous singles have been a combination of country, pop, garage rock, and grunge. They've been what would normally be a little too shiny and pop for me, but something about them has been irresistible to me. The duo's latest, "Hush," strips away the harder rock edge and leaves a dark country/pop ballad. Putting the word pop anywhere near country is usually off putting for me, but "Hush" is a gorgeous song, and I don't think I'll ever be able to avoid Jackson+Sellers' vocal harmonies. Plus, there is just that little something the two have together that is just pure magic. You can listen to "Hush" below. Breaking Point is due out October 22 on Anti- Records. Slow Crush - "Swoon"

Image
Photo by Kat De Laet Last month I brought you "Hush," the latest single from Belgian shoegaze band Slow Crush. I absolutely gushed about it, which I was hesitant to do. As much as I loved the single, there are many, many bands that I'll feverishly praise a single of, and then am less than impressed by the second single. And even less once the album comes out. Luckily, "Swoon" is more than worthy of my gushing praise. "Swoon" is this huge wall of shoegaze noise type of song. It starts off like a disjointed Sonic Youth breakdown, but once the song takes off, it does at a pace not typically associated with shoegaze. This is loud and fast shoegaze, but with Isa Holliday providing the almost ASMR level soothing vocals you usually find in the genre. Now that we have two fantastic singles from Slow Crush we can officially start fanboying out over their upcoming album. You can watch the video for "Swoon" below. Hush is due out October 22 on Quiet Pan...

Slow Crush - "Hush"

Photo by Kat De Laet I don't know a huge amount about Belgium, but Belgian shoegaze just sounds right. Slow Crush's latest single, "Hush," is exactly what I want out of shoegaze. It starts off a bit quiet and twee, and then just erupts into a wall of noise that is going to just blow you back. It's a wall of fuzzy and swirling guitars and hypnotic vocals that, despite its volume, almost lulls you into relaxation. There is a loud/quiet/loud factor, but the periods of loud and quiet each last long enough that it doesn't truly matter. This is the kind of vintage shoegaze you crave deep down and need. Luckily, Slow Crush is back to give it to us. You can watch the video for "Hush" below. Hush is due out October 22 on Quiet Panic. You can pre-order the album here . Kindling - "Destroy Yrself"

Image
Photo by Reid Haithcock For the life of me I can't figure out how I started paying attention to Easthampton, MA's Kindling, but their newest song makes me thrilled I stumbled onto them at some point in the past. "Destroy Yrself" is an absolutely epic shoegazey song. The track starts off with this furious, bouncy, swirling fury, and just goes from there for about two minutes. There's an epic false start, where the song trails off. It will actually make you angry that you began to love it so much, just to have it end. And then the song takes back off, only to begin trailing off again. Finally it just erupts back in full force as what is almost a full fledged arena anthem. Of course, then it abruptly ends, crashing you back down into reality and desperate for more.  You can listen to "Destroy Yrself" below. Kindling's latest album, Hush , will be out November 10. You can pre-order it via Bandcamp , with $1.00 of all pre-order sales going to Partne...
