Why You Should Listen : Abigail Washburn and Wu Fei are both virtuosos in their own right. Overall Thoughts : There's good music, there's important music, and then you get albums like this that are both good and important. Just a great work of art on its own with a lot of moments that really work great on their own, and the former college music major in me senses a lot of little bites of things to explore on future listens. There's no flaw in this at all, and it's something you should absolutely find time for. Recommendation : A must-listen. Summer is over, which usually means the end of free outdoor concerts. Somehow New England decided to squeak out three more free shows this weekend, with something for every fan of rock based music! Boston Local Music Festival September 28 and 29 City Hall Plaza, Boston MA To me, this seems like a direct response to Boston Calling. It's right at Boston Calling's first location, and Boston Calling previously included a September show. This one features fifty Boston based bands over three stages for two days! With any festival this large, there are a lot of bands we're not hugely familiar with, but there are a bunch we know and love! You get the mainstream alternative rock of blindspot, the synth pop of Pyramid Thieves, the experimental hardcore punk of DNZL, the garage rock/pop of Carissa Johnson, the glam punk of The Knock Ups, the garage rock of Salem Wolves, and the Celtic punk of The Gobshites! Green River Festival is looking to break out in 2019. The five artists they previously announced (First Aid Kit, The Wood Brothers, Tyler Childers, The Devil Makes Three, and Rhiannon Giddens) and a great base for any festival. Today they announced more of their line up, and... this one will be legendary.  In addition to First Aid Kit, Friday will also include folk rockers Parsonsfield and indie folder Heather Maloney. Joining Saturday are world music legend Angelique Kidjo (someone I probably would never see if it wasn't for a festival like this), rocker Low Cut Connie, one man band sensation The Suitcase Junket, Boston roots staples Session Americana, and Boston's fuzzed out Americana sensations The Stone Coyotes. Sunday now includes The Record Company (which is a huge get for a smaller festival), neo-soul group The Suffers, and Cedric Burnside, grandson of R.L. As if the organizers of the Green River Festival weren't absurdly busy enough putting together one of the best line ups we've seen in years (Steve Earle! Lydia Loveless! J Mascis! Polaris!), they've announced a brand new one day mini-festival called Amourasaurus! Basically, they took a bunch of bands that they wanted for Green River but couldn't book, and booked them for August 30 instead. Amourasaurus will feature Lake Street Dive, JD McPherson, Parsonsfield, Winterpills, and And the Kids. It's perfect if you've already made plans for the weekend of July 10-12, or just want to keep the fun going.  The inaugural Amourasaurus will take place August 30 at Pines Theater at Look Park, Florence, MA.
