Some shows are simply can't miss ones. When I first saw that Cape Crush were celebrating their excellent new album, Place Memory , at Deep Cuts with ONE FALL, Good June, and Hell Beach, I knew that would be a contender for bill of the year. All four bands are fantastic, and while all four play some version of pop punk/emo/melodic punk, they all do it differently enough to keep the night interesting. As high as my expectations for Friday night were, they were all blown away. Good June was the band I was least familiar with, and the only one I hasn't previously seen live. The emo rock band took the stage first, and set the bar for the evening high. This is emo with an alt-rock edge, and every song was catchier and more fun than the last. Every band seemed to have their own diehard fans right up front and singing all the words, and Good June were no exception. I simply can't emphasize enough how catchy every song in Good June's set was, and I've had multiple taking tur...

Good June - "Something Beautiful"

Image
We haven't heard from Boston's Good June since their collaboration with Cape Crush last January. Now the alt-rock/emo band are back with a new single and an expanded sound. "Something Beautiful" is still an alt-rock/emo song, but it's somehow even more melodic and lovely than you'd expect from that genre. Despite it's three and a half minute length, the song is an absolute epic. It changes tempo and styles repeatedly throughout, and is overflowing with vocal melodies. There are still screamy parts, but "Something Beautiful" is... well... beautiful. You don't typically get a song this fast paced while being this lovely, but that's the magic of Good June.  You can listen to "Something Beautiful" below. Afterimage is due out June 5. Cape Crush featuring Good June - "Apple at the Aggy"

Image
Coming up later this month is a three-way split release we simply can't wait for. Good Dogs Wear Capes is a six song release featuring Boston bands Cape Crush, Impossible Dog, and Good June, with each band having two songs each that guest the other bands! The first release we can hear from this release is "Apple at the Aggy," which is from Cape Crush featuring Good June. Both bands fit into the emo category, but this track sounds more like 90's alt-rock than what you would typically associate with emo. Sure, it's emo, but it's more of a mainstream version of The Promise Ring and The Get Up Kids. Plus, "Apple at the Aggy" is one of the most infectious songs we've heard in a while, and gets exponentially better with each listen! You can listen to "Apple at the Aggy" below. Good Dogs Wear Capes is due out January 24, with a release party/show on January 31 at Deep Cuts in Medford. For more on Cape Crush, check out the band on Instagram an...
