Ruby Grove - Ripple Effect

Despite summer deciding to wait a little longer before fully welcoming those of us in New England, Ruby Grove have released an EP perfect for the wayward season. Ripple Effect is a six song release that is going to get a lot of play once we can spend time outside again. It starts off with "Ocean Sun," a multi-genre track that encompasses elements of pop, jazz, alt-rock, prog rock, and more. It's a heavenly song that showcases the Boston band unlike anything they've put out so far. Immediately following it is "Lazy River," which is a little less mellow than the title might suggest. Singer Melissa Nilles ups the jazzy side of her vocals and the song has the vibe of trip hop, just more organic and with a firey guitar solo. "Crystal Land" has more of a blues meets synthpop sound. Ruby Grove - "Ocean Sun"

We've always loved how Ruby Grove have been able to weave together multiple different sounds and genres into a new sound completely their own. Now the Boston band are back with a new single, "Ocean Sun." Once again, this track is nearly impossible to tie down into a neat little description, but I'm obligated to at least try. It's a laid back and upbeat track that's perfect for the impending summer. It's a synth heavy mix of indie rock and jazz, with some strong roots in prog rock, New Wave, and classic rock. As synth heavy as "Ocean Sun" is, there are some amazing almost secret guitar solos that sneak their way in. I hate to admit it, but there might even be some yacht rock in there, too. Plus, this is the best that Melissa Nilles' voice has sounded. It's been great hearing Ruby Grove grow as a band and discover their sound, and we can't wait to hear more.
