Artist : Lea Thomas Album : Cosmos Forever Quick Thoughts : The only flaw that exists in this album, in my opinion, is that it's too short. I don't know Lea Thomas's music at all, but this is the sort of slowcore folk stuff that scratches an extremely particular itch for me. While I highlight two great songs here, the whole seven track album is just stellar from beginning to end, and is quickly becoming a recent favorite. A mandatory listen this week. Songs of Note : "We Must Be In Love," "Bauhinia" Artist : Circus Trees Album : This makes me sad, and I miss you Quick Thoughts : Circus Trees is a sibling band from Massachusetts and this latest record is a massive step forward in their activity as a band. This feels raw and honest without going overboard, and the production hits well above its weight - "Alone" and "Negative Feedback" in particular kill it. So many songs on this absolutely blew my mind, and I can't w...

The end of the world is bringing its A game for new music right now. Artist : Nine Inch Nails Album : Ghosts V: Together / Ghosts VI: Locusts Quick Description : Two new surprise entries in the Nine Inch Nails Ghosts canon. Why You Should Listen : It's ambient industrial done right. Overall Thoughts : I was thinking today that if you told me back in high school that the guy behind The Downward Spiral would be one of the best movie scorers in his era and that his more ambient efforts would be the things I'd love the most, I don't know how I would react. But here we are, in 2020, and Nine Inch Nails has quietly become one of the most essential artists of our time and the two surprises this week really show what makes Trent Reznor so important. There's no reason to miss this one anyway, but it's definitely one of the great listens of the week. Recommendation : A must-listen in any week, never mind this one. Artist : The No Ones Album : The Great L...

Orion Sun - "Ne Me Quitte Pas"

The world of pop and R&B is a musical style that I really haven't paid much attention to since the very early 90's. Even when I can recognize that something is good, it doesn't typically work for me personally. This is why I'm so shocked by how much I like Orion Sun's new single. The Philadelphia based artist's new single, "Ne Me Quitte Pas," is pure R&B and I truly love this song. There's something just slightly different enough about it that draws me in that I can't quite put my finger on. Orion Sun does cite Jodeci, J Dilla, Nancy Wilson, and Digable Planets as influences, so that could be a part of it. It could be that it has a strong soulful feel, or it could be the just barely there trippy dream pop feel, but this song has made me a fan. You can watch the video for "Ne Me Quitte Pas" below. The single is available now via Mom + Pop. You can stream and download it here . For more on Orion Sun, check out her website . ...
