If It's Too Loud...

KISS are one of my least favorite bands out there, but for some reason I love covers of their songs. The Boatsmen might be one of the most perfect bands to cover the classic shock rockers, and they have made their cover of "Room Service" available digitally for the first time. It was originally released on a KISS tribute album,  SSIK Action, put out by Devil Beat Records. I'm completely unfamiliar with the original version of "Room Service," but I can guarantee that The Boatsmen do a perfect job covering it. It still sounds like a KISS song, but our favorite Swedish hard garage rockers do inject their own little thing into the cover. It's a fun version of a song, and even if you don't particularly enjoy the original you could very well end up loving the cover. You can listen to The Boatsmen covering "Room Service" below. There are roughly a few thousand covers of Prince's beyond classic song "Kiss" out there, but Joan As Police Woman's isn't like any other. It's a complete reworking of the song. Instead of an 80's dance masterpiece, Joan As Police Woman does it as a stripped down indie/folk/soul song. It's as minimal as can be, but still with Prince style vocals. It's an oddly groovy and unique take on the original. It's a must listen. You can listen to Joan As Policewoman's version of "Kiss" below. Last week while doing some Black Friday shopping (for myself) at a used record store, I came across Kiss My Ass: Classic Kiss Regrooved  in the discount CD bin. I hadn't even thought about this album for about 20 years, so I figured I'd give it another listen. Now, to be fair, I've always hated Kiss. While I gained an appreciation for classic rock bands in my 30s that I hated in my 20s (Bruce Springsteen, Led Zeppelin, AC/DC), the same can't be said for Kiss.
