Folk Uke - "Gay for You"

Image
Photo by Todd Wolfson Folk Uke is the Texas based musical project of Amy Nelson (daughter of Willie Nelson) and Cathy Guthrie (daughter of Arlo Guthrie). For pride month, the duo have released a new single, "Gay for You." It's a rollicking folk track with an obvious sense of humor. It's the kind of song just begging to be played in bars and dives, as it has that old timey barroom sound. It's a fun song that shows off the musical ability and sense of humor that runs in both of their families. Folk Uke say of their latest single: “ We were sitting around drinking one night and had this idea that instead of writing love songs for undeserving men, maybe we should write love songs for each other.  We dedicate this song to our LGBTQ+ sisters and brothers around the world. We hope you will feel the love we have for you in this song.” You can listen to "Gay for You" below. For more on Folk Uke, check out the artist's website .

Folk Uke Cover Tom Petty

Photo by Todd V. Wolfson Amy Nelson and Cathy Guthrie first met at a bar in San Diego back in 1996 and have been making music as Folk Uke since. For the 4th of July, the duo have recorded an acoustic cover of Tom Petty's iconic "American Girl." It's a very stripped down take on the classic arena rocker, but it still feels fully fleshed out and lush. That's mostly due to Nelson and Guthrie's harmonies. After nearly thirty years, the two have perfected merging their vocals into a stunning combination. This is a really fun cover that is ideal for the upcoming (kind of) holiday weekend. You can listen to Folk Uke's version of "American Girl" below. The single will officially be out on streaming services on July 4th, but you can pre-save it here .
