Big D and the Kids Table - "Right Now"

Image
Photo by Mark Stern If you ever went through a ska-punk phase, you probably know and love Big D and the Kids Table. The Boston band has a new single out that is everything you ever loved about them. "Right Now" is an upbeat and melodic track that's just about as chill as anything can be and still be ska-punk. If anything, the song feels like a grown up version of Big D and the Kids Table. This specific genre isn't exactly known for maturing, but this song feels like a natural progression from a band you loved in high school and college and can still love while having a full time job and responsibilities. Bonus that you can still skank and mosh to it. Frontman David McWane says of his band's latest single: “RIGHT NOW is about launching your positive self NOW.  We haven’t experienced a positive American year in a long-long time. We won’t be able to keep living so tense. It’s time to recognize you are alive and that that experience isn’t long. It’s time to make your ...

Grafh x 38 Spesh featuring Haile Supreme and Talib Kweli - "Right Now"

Image
Later this month, Grafh and 38 Spesh will be releasing a collaborative album, and we can listen to a new track from that album. The track also features appearances by Haile Supreme and Talib Kweli. While most hip hop that I cover here at If It's Too Loud... tends to be throwbacks to the earlier days of rap, "Right Now" sounds much more modern. It may have a foot in the classic sound of the 90's, but a modernized version of that sound. It's a great combination of the grittier side of the genre and the more mainstream, R&B inflected sound. (Leaning more towards the grittier side.) "Right Now" is a perfect introduction to the collaboration between Grafh and 38 Spesh, and will have you anticipating the full album later this month. You can listen to "Right Now" below. God's Timing is due out July 26. For more on Grafh, check him out in Instagram . 38 Spesh's Instagram can be found here .

Jesse Roper - "Right Now"

Image
British Columbia's Jesse Roper is making folk music for giant festivals. His latest single, "Right Now," takes the normally quiet and personal genre and makes it huge. Sure, there are other folk/Americana artists that play arenas, but they typically lose what makes folk great. "Right Now" is a huge arena ready folk/rock song that keeps the true spirit of folk alive, despite being a huge rock song. It starts off simply enough, like most more mainstream folk songs do these days. And then it just keeps getting bigger and louder as the song goes on. Plus, it couldn't be more obvious in its political leanings. As the press release says, " Roper  doesn't expect this song to change the world. He does, however, want to rock the fuck out, sing things into a microphone that he believes, and crush guitar riffs." You can listen to "Right Now" below. Horizons , the upcoming album from Jesse Roper, will be out soon. For more on Jesse Roper, che...
