Live Shows: Olivia Dolphin and Yonks, Myrtle, East Providence, RI 1/3/26

I've been a fan of Olivia Dolphin's for a while now. The Providence artist has nailed the "piano driven witchy pop" genre perfectly, and I've been meaning to get out and see her live show for a while now. Unfortunately, it's taken far too long, but the stars finally aligned this past Saturday for her release show for her excellent EP All the Time We Spent. The fact that it was at Myrtle, one of my favorite venues, only sweetened the deal. Opening the show was Yonks, a band I was completely unfamiliar with. They play a blend of alt-rock, blues rock, and pop that initially seemed fairly straightforward, but really great. After their first song, I expected a good, solid set to help warm up the crowd. But as they played, I got sucked in more and more. As their set went on, it became more and more engaging, with subtleties that set them apart from other artists in their genre. It didn't hurt that Yonks fans showed up in force to sing and dance the night away. P...

Olivia Dolphin - "I... I..."

Image
Rhode Island "piano-driven witch pop" artist Olivia Dolphin has a new single out, and its absolutely stunning. "I... I..." keeps the "piano-driven witch pop" sound we've come to adore from Dolphin, but it might be her most rock based song so far. It starts out with just piano before the vocals kick in. "I... I..." would be a fantastic song if it stayed with just vocals and piano, but once the rest of the band kicks in, the song takes on epic proportions. It's not quite a headbanger, but Olivia Dolphin has released a killer power ballad with "I... I..." You can listen to "I... I..." below. Olivia Dolphin's new EP is due out December 12, with an EP release show on December 13 at Myrtle in East Providence, RI. For more on the artist, check out her website . I... I... by Olivia Dolphin

Olivia Dolphin - "Lost"

Image
Providence "piano-driven witch pop" artist Olivia Dolphin is back with a brand new single. "Lost" is a heart-wrenching piano ballad heavy on emotion but composed in such a beautiful way that it's still an enjoyable listen. This is a pop song with strong folk elements and an alt-rock edge. The song has such an interesting feel and sound so that it's a pop oriented song that doesn't truly sound like a pop song. Dolphin has captured a completely unique vibe that is all hers while still keeping her sound grounded in the familiar. "Lost" is a song that captivates by just the power of Dolphin's vocals and songwriting talents.  You can listen to "Lost" below. For more on Olivia Dolphin, check out the artist's website .
