If It's Too Loud...

We're just over a week away from the release of Pega Monstro's new album, and we have a new song with a tweaked sound to check out. Our favorite garage rock sister duo from Portugal have released a new song, "Cachupa," and while it still has some of Pega Monstro's garage rock sound, it's a bit more tame and has more than a little bit of a dream pop sound to it. It still has classic garage rock guitars in it, but there's more of a dreamy, psychedelic element to it, almost as if it's being played through a haze. The dreamy, psychedelic sound is slowly drawn out more and more as the song continues. Plus, it clocks in at almost six and a half minutes, so it's practically the length of three normal garage rock songs. Portugal's greatest garage punk sister duo are back with a brand new song! We first discovered Pega Monstro with the release of Alfarroba back in 2015. "Partir a Loica" is the first song off their upcoming album Casa de Sima , their third overall. Not being a lyrics guy, I'm completely ok with songs done entirely in other languages that I, as an ignorant American, don't understand a single word of. In case you're curious, "Partir a loica" is a common Portuguese phrase that roughly translates to "break all the dishes," and is used to mean shake things up. "Partir a Loica," the song, is pretty much a perfect garage punk song. It's catchy as can be, with crunchy sounding guitars, but yet it still has a pretty melody you'll sing even if you don't understand a single word. Formed by sisters  Júlia Reis and Maria Reis, Pega Monstro started their own label, Cafetra Records, to release some of Portugal's burgeoning punk movement in 2010. The pair also formed Pega Monstro, as garage punk duo. For their 2nd album,  Alfarroba, the pair decided to sign with Upset the Rhythm. The first single off  Alfarroba is " Braço de Ferro," in all it's catchy, noisy glory. It's pure poppy garage punk perfection. It features a fuzzy, droned out guitar and lyrics so infectious you'll catch yourself singing it even if you've never spoken a word of Portuguese. It's fast, and fun, and noise, a perfect mixture of bands like Ex Hex and anything Jack White works on. Alfarroba is due out on July 6 on Upset the Rhythm.
