If It's Too Loud...

Photo by Jackie Freeman Vermont's Robber Robber have just released a cover of Elvis Presley's "Suspicious Minds," my own personal favorite Elvis song. If you aren't expecting this to be a note for note completely faithful cover, you're correct. Robber Robber turn the 1969 number one song into a bizarre indie rock burst. Musically, it goes off into a vastly different direction that sounds nothing like the original. The lyrics and vocals remain faithful to Elvis', and unlike many similar covers from the 90's, Robber Robber aren't using their cover to mock a classic. This is no novelty, and you can tell they're fans. This version of "Suspicious Minds" is a lot of fun, and a great way for Robber Robber to end their 2025. I'm much more of a Halloween guy than a Christmas one, and under any other circumstances there is no way I would post about Christmas music before Thanksgiving, but this is 2020, and I'm a firm believer in finding joy where you can this year. Since many people find joy in Christmas music, we can bring it to you a little earlier this year. Murder By Death have an album of Christmas music this year, and the first single is a cover of Elvis Presley's "Blue Christmas." Murder By Death are the kind of roots band that can successfully open for Clutch, so a Christmas song from them is an odd sounding prospect. Well... they nailed it. Sure, the Murder By Death version is a little darker sounding version, but that could just be Adam Turla's voice. It's a spot on cover, and I challenge you to not smile just a tiny bit when you listen to this, even if it's a teensy bit too early. Amazon Music has curated a playlist called "Love Me" featuring indie artists of today covering classic love songs. While recording Tender Warriors Club , Lady Lamb recorded a cover of Elvis Presley's "Can't Help Falling In Love." I spent all of my 20s and a good chunk of my 30s despising Elvis, mainly for never writing his own music. Recently, I've come to respect him as an entertainer, and "Can't Help Falling In Love" has always (even back when I would never have admitted it) been one of my favorite Elvis songs. Lady Lamb's take is surprisingly true to the original, but with her own signature sound.
