Blondshell - "Fur Elise"

Image
Photo by Reese Layton Blondshell's latest single is the closer for her album, and it's the perfect type of closing song. "Fur Elise" fits in that indie rock meets pop sound that is all the rage these days (and one we can't seem to get enough of). It's a mid-tempo track that is epic in scope. It's not exactly loud/quiet/loud, but it's adjacent to that beloved musical trope. It gets a little faster as it goes on, and leans into the rock side of her sound a bit more than Blondshell usually does. Our favorite albums all seem to end on songs that are a little bit huge and a little bit intimate, and leave the listener both satisfied and wanting a little more. "Fur Elise" is one of those, and keeps on morphing into a more compelling song again and again. Blondshell has sneakily become one of the best artists of her generation, and this upcoming album is expected to be huge. Sabrina Teitelbaum (aka Blondshell) says of her latest single: "You...

Ezra Collective featuring Lila Iké - "Well Organised"

Image
Photo by Sergio Pontier Fresh off discovering Lila Ik é  at this year's Green River Festival, Ezra Collective have brought in the Jamaican singer in for their latest single. "Well Organised" is a laid back track that combines Ik é  reggae vocals with Ezra Collective's jazz based sound. This is a perfect match of styles and sounds, with the perfect amount of steel drums and groove. There's also a heavy dose of R&B in "Well Organised," which simply adds to the perfect blend of styles. Ezra Collective and Lila Ik é  are a dream match of styles and "Well Organised" is the perfect song for the summer and beyond. Bandleader Femi Koleoso says of his band's latest single: "I was spending time with the Kinetika Bloco Youth Club; they were playing steel pans and the most beautiful line caught my attention. I recorded it on my phone and lived with it. It had the emotion and beauty that I associate with dancehall, bashment, reggae and so many ...

Blondshell - "Violins"

Image
Photo by Reese Layton Blondshell, aka Sabrina Teitelbaum, announced her third album and released the title track. "Violins" is everything we love about the artist. Lots of bands nowadays blur the lines between indie rock and pop, but no one does it quite like Blondshell. "Violins" is an epic track. It's a power ballad with the emphasis on power. This is the kind of indie rock that's going to be a gateway to the genre for kids that grew up on pop, as well as their crusty old indie rock snob dads. Plus, there's great crunchy guitar work throughout that leads to a killer solo. Blondshell has been on the precipice of superstardom since her first album, and Violins might just what puts her over the edge. Sabrina Teitelbaum says of her latest single: “This song sums up the album in a lot of ways. When I was writing I felt really drawn to images of patience and kindness, for example putting your head on someone’s shoulder, alongside images of violence. I was al...

Ezra Collective featuring Pa Salieu - "Only Love"

Image
Photo by Sergio Pontier Ezra Collective are back with a new album due in September, and are teaming with Pa Salieu for a new single. The British jazz collective have always had an Afrobeat sound, and "Only Love" only expands on that sound. This is perfect for music fans that don't "get" jazz. The song has such a strong groove that makes it impossible to not dance. This isn't sit in your chair and enjoy a martini style jazz. This is a party waiting to happen, and you're going to want to get up and start moving to fully enjoy it. That's just the magic and style of Ezra Collective, and you're going to absolutely love this one. Bandleader Femi Koleoso says of his band's new single: “Pa Salieu has been a musician that we have long admired in Ezra Collective. Not just because of his incredible lyricism and storytelling but also his ability to weave in his Gambian heritage and roots into such a distinctly UK sound. "In 2024 we had the beautiful...

Blondshell - "Heart Has to Work So Hard"

Image
Photo by Reese Layton Blondshell, aka the musical project of Sabrina Teitelbaum, has a brand new single out, and it might be her best yet. "Heart Has to Work So Hard" continues Blondshell's mixture of pop and indie rock, with this one leaning deeper into indie rock territory. This new song is intense, and it's just as melodic as it is noisy. It feels like a mixture of PJ Harvey and Boygenius, and it's deserving of that level of praise. Teitelbaum has always let all of her emotions out in her music, but not on the level that she does on "Heart Has to Work So Hard." It feels urgent, like she needed to get this song out of her soul.  Sabrina Teitelbaum says of her latest single: “This song is really about friendship and betrayal, getting stuck in a dynamic and letting things fester. It’s about pain and confusion — no one trains you for the ups and downs of a friendship between two women — but it’s also about a love so enduring that you find compassion no ma...

Just Mustard - "ENDLESS DEATHLESS"

Image
Photo by Conor James Ireland's Just Mustard are going to be a next to impossible to define band. Their latest single, "ENDLESS DEATHLESS," is probably closest to shoegaze as far as a genre, but that barely begins to explain the sound. The guitars sound warped, and are squealing for attention in the best possible way. Despite that, it has beats that would sound more at home in a dance song, and Katie Ball's vocals are more aligned with the pop sound of The Cardigans. Taking all of this into consideration, "ENDLESS DEATHLESS" should not work at all, but it's one of my favorite songs of the year. Just Mustard could end up having a breakout year in 2026, and we're here for it. You can watch the video for "ENDLESS DEATHLESS" below. WE WERE JUST HERE is due out October 24 on Partisan Records, and is available for pre-order here . For more on Just Mustard, check out the band's website . Upcoming tour dates are below the video. Fri. Oct. 24 - L...

TTSSFU - "Call U Back"

Image
Photo by Henry Collier We're fully on board with the newfangled indie rock meets pop sound that's all over the place these days, and we may have found our new favorite artist of that genre. TTSSFU just released "Call U Back," an intense dream pop sound with fuzzy guitars and a driving beat. The song leans quite heavily into pop while defiantly being a rock song. At times the single seems to be heading more into pop territory, while others it leans more into rock, but for the majority it's somehow both. "Call U Back" is going to sound like whatever your preference is. There are whining, noisy guitars with pop beats, and vocals that could either be modern pop or 90's slacker. Whichever way you go with this one, TTSSFU is going to become a new favorite of all of ours. TTSSFU says of the new single: "Call U Back is a song about when you really like someone and you chase them around to try and make it work, but end up just making a fool of yourself b...

Just Mustard - "POLLYANNA"

Image
Photo by Kate Lawlor The latest from Just Mustard is going to be a hard sell for some of you (in the best possible way). "POLLYANNA" starts off with one of the most intense bursts of feedback we've heard in a while, and then a jazz style drumming starts with the feedback acting almost like a siren. Then front woman Katie Ball's vocals work their way in in such a lush and dreamlike way that the beauty is sort of jarring next to the cacophony that is also going on. The Dundalk, Ireland band have created this intense mix of beauty and discordance that is going to either suck you in completely or repel you. Eventually, the two sonically different sides merge into one that resides in the middle... or maybe we just grow to accept the noise by the end. Katie Ball says of her band's new video: “ We shot the video using different CCTV and vhs cameras around our hometown Dundalk trying to have as much fun as possible, the kind of fun that makes you feel sick almost instantl...

WITCH - "Kamusale"

Image
Photo by Izzie Austin Zamrock legends WITCH (aka We Intend to Cause Havoc) have their new album, SOGOLO , due tomorrow, and they have a new single out to keep us excited for it. "Kamusale" continues their previous singles' move towards a more rock based sound. The song has a crunchy guitar, and a sound that is a more updated version of their original 70's sound. "Kamusale" is based on a Bemba children's game song, and it has a certain vibe that makes it feel both retro and modern at the same time. It's a mixture of the funk of the 70's, the crunchy guitar of the 90's, and a modern sensibility that ties the whole thing together. WITCH have such an exciting sound on their hands, and we can barely wait until the full album comes out tomorrow. Frontman Emmanuelle "Jagari" Chanda says of the band's new single: “Children gather under the moonlight in the village and pretend to be preparing themselves for marriage.  So we are saying as...
