Velvet Starlings - "Bullfight"
Photo by Sophie Prettyman-Beauchamp Los Angeles' Velvet Starlings sound like a throwback to the indie sleaze era of the early 00's. (In case you want to feel old...) The band's latest single, "Bullfight," is an amped up dirty blues stomp mixed with plenty of rockabilly. It also sounds like a sludgy version of punk, and at times is either bolting ahead at a reckless pace or weighted down by the sludge. Despite being at least partially a throwback style song, "Bullfight" still sounds modern. If there was a rock revival twenty years ago, Velvet Starlings are using that inspiration to try and get another much needed one going.
