she's green - "empty house"

Image
Photo by Liam Armstrong Minneapolis' she's green typically go the shoegaze route with their music, but their latest single is a much quieter affair. "empty house" is an acoustic, melancholy song. It's not a folk song, but more of when an alt-rock band would show up on MTV's Unplugged. Even though it's much more mellow than their normal music, "empty house" is just as engaging as anything she's green have previously put out. This is a lovely and affecting song, and shows off the range that the band has. We always want to hear what she's green do next, and even more so now. Bandleader Zofia Smith says of her band's latest single: “'empty house' is a metaphor for the beauty of life’s impermanence. It pictures your body as an empty house, a place in constant wear and repair, where things come and go—people, memories, and pieces of ourselves." You can watch the video for "empty house" below. swallowtail is due out Ju...

she's green - "Paper Thin"

Image
Photo by Wendy Rosales she's green have been releasing a series of singles that have encompassed just about every subgenre of shoegaze, and their latest harkens back to the first of theirs we ever covered. "Paper Thin" is an absolutely gorgeous and quiet shoegaze song. You still get the wall of sound associated with the genre, albeit a more gentle version. It's a lush and delicate song that is awash in melancholy. If you tend to enjoy music on the mote chill and gloomy side, "Paper Thin" is for you. she's green aren't quite drifting into the realm of goth on their latest, but the vibes are definitely there. Zofia Smith says of her band's latest single: “‘paper thin’ explores the power of lust in a dying relationship: how it can be confused for love when in reality, the relationship has already faded." You can watch the video for "Paper Thin" below. Swallowtail is due out July 10 on Photo Finish Records, and is available for pre-ord...

she's green - "mettle"

Image
Photo by Jaxon Whittington she's green have completely nailed the 90's alt-rock inspired noise meets beauty sound with their latest single. "mettle" has giant riffs that crunch their way through the song, along with the beauty of Zofia Smith's vocals. It's a little shoegaze, a little dream pop, and a little grunge. The whole package has me imagining a collaboration between Hum and Mazzy Star. You won't know if you should pogo or sway to  "mettle," but both are correct. We became enamored with she's green's music when we first heard it last February, and "mettle" might be our favorite song of theirs yet. Zofia Smith says of her band's latest single: “‘mettle’ channels the frustration and discomfort that stem from what often feels like constant bad news, while also being an anthem of resilience and the courage to take action and bring about positive change." You can watch the video for "mettle" below. The single...

she's green - "Willow"

Image
Photo by Jaxon Whittington Minneapolis' she's green have returned with a new single off an upcoming EP due next month. "Willow" lands square in the middle of both shoegaze and dream pop. It's a little too light sounding to be shoegaze, and a little too drone-y to be dream pop. It's a gorgeous song with jangling guitars to match the fuzz and vocals that sound more like they belong in an indie pop single. While much shoegaze tends to be giant in scope, "Willow" is more introspective and a little bit twee. It's a sunny song perfect to listen to outside while it's still warm out, even if the subject matter doesn't exactly match the positivity the song brings. she's green say of their latest single: “‘Willow’ reflects on our dying relationship with the natural world—a relationship that’s not always loving, but formative nonetheless.  It’s an energetic song that we love playing live.” You can watch the video for "Willow" below. she's green - "Figurines"

Image
Photo by Jaxon Whittington Minneapolis based she's green have a new single out that might be perfect for the warm weather we're finally getting in New England. "Figurines" is a lush song that lands in the world of 90's inspired dream pop. The song feels hazy and breezy at the same time. Maybe it's just the band's name, but "Figurines" sounds like the feeling you get just as trees start to bud and you realize the grip of winter is finally over. It's a gorgeous and stunning song, and that's all before the wall of shoegaze style noise takes over. This one is sounding like a mixture of Mazzy Star and Catherine Wheel, and from us that's very high praise. As the wave of shoegaze and dream pop starts to rise, expect huge things from she's green. The band says of their latest single: “In the setting of someone finding themselves lost at a crossroads, ‘Figurines’ depicts the distressful feelings of adolescent self-discovery.  The emblem of...
