Some solid stuff out this week! Album of the Week : Artist : Diet Cig Album : Swear I'm Good at This Quick Description : Debut from an indie-alt duo. Why You Should Listen : This is one of the great releases of the last few months. Overall Thoughts : After I listened to this amazing album, I went back to their first EP because I knew I had listened to it and I couldn’t figure out why it didn’t register with me. If you were thinking “that’s nice” with the EP, then strap in, because this debut effort is a much more full affair. Lots of that great 90s-esque alt-rock sound, but with a modern indie sensibility that is just so good. The lyrics are extremely current, which provides an extra novelty factor, and the overall feel of the thing is both immediate and fun. This is absolutely a duo to watch, and this is absolutely one of my favorite recent listens. Recommendation : Do not let this slip by. Artist : KOLARS Album : Kolars Quick Description : Poppy punky duo's...

A quieter week than normal as we approach the American Thanksgiving holiday. I'd also review the new Adele, but, well... Album of the Week : Artist : Sheer Album : Uneasy Quick Description : Shoegazey-style indie alt-rock. The full album, thankfully, is about as good as the single, and that means great things for a band that I don't think is getting enough attention yet. It's just one of those solid, surprise albums that make it fun to discover new music. It's one you'll want to tell your friends about. Recommendation : Highly recommended album of the week, and it's not even close. Artist : Kingsley Flood Album : The Good Fight Quick Description : Latest EP from a favorite of ours. Why You Should Listen : You look for more of a ro...

I guess a lot of the music for the week was delayed due to the midterm elections. We have some really interesting releases this week, though. Arca - Xen : Arca is best known for his production work, with some credits on one of my favorites this year, FKA Twigs's LP 1 and Kanye's most recent release. This, a solo release, is definitely more on the elctronic end, lending itself more to some of the glitchiest stuff out there while still being somewhat accessible. I like it a lot, but proceed with caution, especially if this isn't typically your genre. Grouper - Ruins : I don't know the first thing about Grouper, but this was a quick hit of some quiet, but interesting, indie folk of sorts. It's a very stark affair, mixing in some field recording-style sounds with the sparse recording to give the appearance of you sitting in her kitchen, listening to a performance. It's an cool choice that doesn't always work, but when it does, it's pretty solid. ...
