If It's Too Loud...

Photo by Shane Gardner Baltimore's Ravagers are just pure classic punk fury. Well... maybe not pure punk. Their latest single, "Shake the Reaper," sounds like it would pre-date punk, but it's not quite Detroit style proto-punk. Instead, this is a more glammed up version of The Stooges that reunited in the early 80's to retake their rightful place as punk icons, but got caught up in metal while doing so. As gritty and edgy as "Shake the Reaper" may be, there is still this insane joy in the song and some unexpectedly catchy hooks. If this had come out twenty years ago Ravagers might have gotten caught up in the whole garage rock revival, although they could have been a little too punk for the mainstream. Baltimore's Ravagers are a punk band. Their latest single, "Down That Road," isn't pop punk, although it's definitely more pop than many other punk songs out there. It's a loud and fast song that is somehow still catchy as hell. It's more along the lines of a band like New York Dolls. While the song doesn't feel like an early punk song from the 70's, it's dripping with the kind of attitude and a little of the glam you'd get back then. "Down That Road" is the type of song they don't make any more... unless you know where to look. You can watch the video for "Down That Road" below. For those times you just want to rock, there are Ravagers. The Baltimore band have a new single out that is just perfection. "Nasty Night" blends early hard rock with the rawness of proto-punk, with some punk rock attitude thrown in. It's loud and in your face in the best possible way. "Nasty Night" has all the primal feel you find in the best rock music, with just the tiniest hint of a pop hook thrown in to keep it interesting. You can watch the video for "Nasty Night" below.
