Canyon Lights - "Drivin' Me"

Image
Photo by Rob Bronson Boston based blues rock trio Canyon Lights have a new single out, and this time they have company. "Drivin' Me" features slide guitar by Johnny Stachela (Duane Betts, Palmetto Motel), and it completely changes up the band's sound. Sure, it's still a blues rock based song, but it has more of a Southern rock vibe than Canyon Lights' previous singles. It's a laid back song that's perfect for the final weeks of summer. "Drivin' Me" has more than a little bit of a Black Crowes sound, with just a little bit more of a country sound. Canyon Lights are shaping up to become one of our favorite discoveries of 2025, and it certainly doesn't hurt that they're from Boston. Drummer Tim Carman says of the band's latest single: “Although the lyrics came together quickly, the exact feel of the song took a while to reveal itself. While in the studio, with the help of co-producer Dylan Brown, we settled on the driving snare d...

Canyon Lights - "Song Behind Those Tears"

Image
Photo by Chris Bryce As much as their latest single is based in blues rock, Canyon Lights continue to expand on that genre with "Song Behind Those Tears." While the new single is definitely blues rock, much like "Seventh Sun," it's also sprinkled with plenty of 70's glam and psychedelia. The guitar solo, in particular, has this amazing feel that is more like glam rockers taking on the blues. "Song Behind Those Tears" sounds like T-Rex taking on the blues, while still allowing Canyon Lights to sound like no one but themselves. This is such a great and unique sound, and Canyon Lights are quickly becoming a favorite of ours. Tim Carman (drummer) says that the band's new s ingle is  "... an exploration of empathy, delving into the hidden stories and unspoken sorrows that lie behind a pair of tear-filled eyes. The song was inspired by an intense interaction between Pat, myself and a mutual friend. After the encounter, Pat was moved to remark, “...

Canyon Lights Cover James Gang

Image
Canyon Lights (aka the new trio consisting of Pat Faherty and Tim Carman formerly of GA-20 and Heather Gillis) have a new standalone single out: A cover of James Gang's "Walk Away." The song is pure dirty and fiery blues in its best form. The guitar solos are absolutely stellar, and the song has that almost out of control vibe going for it. Just when you think the instrumental portion might have gone on too long, it keeps on going and makes you realize you were wrong. Plus, this is the type of cover that makes you want to immediately listen to the original, especially if you're unfamiliar with it. Canyon Lights are quickly becoming one of our favorite new Boston bands of the year. Drummer Tim Carman says of his band's new single: “We’re all big fans of James Gang and everything Joe Walsh. While touring as the opening act for George Thorogood, Pat, Heather, and I started playing 'Walk Away' live and wanted to capture that energy in the studio. Recorded at 3...

Canyon Lights - "Seventh Son"

Image
One of my favorite things about the releases we've heard from Canyon Lights so far is that it's rooted in the blues rock that dominated Pat Faherty and Tim Carman's previous band GA-20, but uses that sound as a jumping off point for their own. The Boston band's latest single, "Seventh Son," has the basic blocks of a swampy, blues rock sound, but Canyon Lights dive into the world of 70's psychedelia and glam. The result is a new sound that long time fans of theirs will love while also appreciating their new artistic direction. These are sounds that mesh together perfectly, and when they're unified by musicians like Faherty, Carman, and Heather Gillis, you simply can't go wrong. Pat Faherty and Tim Carman say of their upcoming album: “The songs on this album are among the most personal we’ve ever written and recorded. Spending 200 days a year on the road, struggling with separation and loss, the thrill and loneliness of living out of a suitcase... a ...

Canyon Lights - "Breathe Easy"

Image
Photo by Chris Bryce Canyon Lights, the band featuring Tim Carman and Pat Faherty formerly of GA-20 along with Heather Gillis, have a new single out that strays from their former band quite a bit. "Breathe Easy" still has that amped up blues rock sound that we'd expect, but it goes in a much more 70's rock inspired direction. The immediate band I thought of was Mountain, but you'll hear more than a little Thin Lizzy in this one. This is a huge, retro blues rock sound that captures the vibes of multiple eras. It's gritty blues with just a teensy bit of glam injected throughout. "Breathe Easy" is a particularly great song. Canyon Lights' previous single, "Let Me In," had us excited to hear where they would go, and "Breathe Easy" has us rabid for more. Tim Carman and Pat Faherty say of their new single: “The songs on this album are among the most personal we’ve ever written and recorded. Spending 200 days a year on the road, stru...

Canyon Lights - "Let Me In"

Image
Canyon Lights are the new project of Pat Faherty and Tim Carman, formerly of GA-20. Their latest single, "Let Me In," is going to appeal to fans of their previous band while still branching out in new sonic directions. It's still that swampy blues sound, but Canyon Lights add in some 70's power pop into that sound. This one is reminding me kind of like a ZZ Top meets Bay City Rollers combination. It's a fun sound that is strangely irresistible. It's a lot higher energy than a mid-tempo song typically has, and if this is the kind of single we can expect from Canyon Lights, they're going to quickly become a favorite around here. Pat and Tim say of their upcoming debut album: “The songs on this album are among the most personal we’ve ever written and recorded. Spending 200 days a year on the road, struggling with separation and loss, the thrill and loneliness of living out of a suitcase... a lot of blood, sweat, and tears went into this album. We held nothing...
