Reckoners Cover Lee Clayton

Image
Photo by Mike Spencer Boston based "rock 'n' soul" supergroup Reckoners have a new single out, and this one is a cover of Lee Clayton's 1978 release "Silver Stallion." This type of cover is my favorite type. Reckoners stay quite faithful to the original while still changing enough to make it their own style. It's much less 70's sounding than the original, and is more of a mixture of Americana and soul than Clayton's song. Both versions are ultrachill and laid back, but the cover has an underlying grit to it and the slightest intensity to keep things interesting and fresh. You certainly don't need to be familiar with Clayton's original to enjoy this cover, and Reckoners once again knock it out of the park. You can listen to Reckoners' cover of "Silver Stallion" below. Where the Hell am I? is due out May 15. For more on Reckoners, check out the band's website . Upcoming live dates are below the song. Feb 20 - Lizard Lo...

Reckoners - "We Saw It All"

Image
Photo by Mike Spencer Boston rock and soul supergroup Reckoners are back with a new single. "We Saw It All" is a wonderfully chill and upbeat track that lands squarely between rock and soul. It has all of the smoothness of soul with some of the grit of rock. This is a killer roots/Americana track that is going to appeal to fans of folk, soul, garage rock, and even jam fans. Reckoners are the kind of band that can easily work at any outdoor summer music festival in New England with a virtually universal appeal. They're not rewriting the rules of any genre of music, yet no one sounds quite like Reckoners do. Singer/guitarist Tim Gearan says of the band's latest single: " Mother Nature holds up a mirror to mankind and asks, 'Do you see all the spectacular potential in all of this?' So we build, invent, and procreate, looking for ways to dignify our existence, and much of this is noble. I guess the idea is, we can stand back and observe our achievements, but ...

Reckoners - "Woman's Woman"

Image
Reckoners are a Boston early soul and classic rock roots supergroup consisting of Tim Gearan on vocals and guitar, Johnny Trama (Bettye LaVette, Dub Apocalypse) on guitar, Tom Arey (J. Geils Band, G. Love) on drums, Marc Hickox (Bettye LaVette, Charlie Musselwhite) on bass, and Darby Wolf (Bettye LaVette, Rubblebucket) on keyboards. Their latest single, "Woman's Woman," is a laid back soul and Americana based track that feels as familiar as an old blanket while having a fresh feel. Reckoners aren't breaking new ground on "Woman's Woman," but they've mastered a sound we all love without imitating the decades of soul before them.  You can watch the video for "Woman's Woman" below. Reckoners' self-titled debut album is out now digitally, with a vinyl release planned for March. For more on Reckoners, check out the bands website . Upcoming live dates are below the video.
