Nicholas Burgess - "I'm Having Difficulty Controlling My Bloodlust"

Image
When you name a song "I'm Having Difficulty Controlling My Bloodlust," I'm at least going to give it a listen or two. Luckily, this one is by Nicholas Burgess, one of the most criminally underrated artists in Boston. Burgess' Halloween releases are legendary around here, and while "I'm Having Difficulty Controlling My Bloodlust" isn't a pure Halloween song, it's certainly not too far of a stretch if you want it to be. This one is a on the alt-rock side, with some meandering into the worlds of metal and grunge. This one is loud and fun, and if you like huge rock songs about bloodlust and videos of devil's shaking their asses, you're gonna love this one. You can watch the video for "I'm Having Difficulty Controlling My Bloodlust" below. The song is available now via Bandcamp . For more on Nicholas Burgess, check out the artist's website .

Live Shows: Sapling, Miracle Blood, The Freqs, and Nicholas Burgess, Electric Haze, Worcester, MA 11/2/25

As much as I love Halloween, I didn't end up doing a lot of Halloween things this year (except for watching more horror movies than normal). For some reason, most of my holiday activities seem to be happening in November. This included Sapling's Halloween Hangover show at Electric Haze in Worcester with Miracle Blood, The Freqs, and Nicholas Burgess. Plus, it was a matinee, and who doesn't want to check out a rock show and be home for dinner? Opening up the show was Nicholas Burgess, playing as a duo with a second guitarist. His set was the most Halloweeny by far, with songs about Frankenstein and his new single written for the occasion, "The Day After Halloween." It was my first time seeing Burgess perform live after discovering his more spooky music, and it was as fun as I expected. He was also decidedly the most mellow artist of the afternoon, which was a good way to ease everyone into a daylight rock show, especially as the crowd was still wandering in off the...

Nicholas Burgess - "The Day After Halloween (Demo)"

Image
Tomorrow afternoon, Nicholas Burgess joins Sapling, Miracle Blood, and The Freqs at Electric Haze in Worcester for a day after Halloween/Halloween hangover show. He's written a new song for the occasion and has a demo of it on Bandcamp. "The Day After Halloween" is a spooky little song about the scares you encounter the day after Halloween. It's a fun song that marks November 1, and this might be the very first song to do so. "The Day After Halloween" is a darkly fun track, and continues Burgess's streak of releasing some of our favorite modern Halloween themed songs. You can listen to "The Day After Halloween (Demo)" below. The song is available on Bandcamp with a cover of Gorillaz's "Feel Good Inc." For more on Nicholas Burgess, check out the artist's website . Nicholas Burgess - "Sweet Little Witch"

Image
Last October, Nicholas Burgess released All-Night Midnite Monster Party , a Halloween ready album with songs like "I'm Sorry Bride of Frankenstein" and "Fear the Brides of Dracula." Now the Boston artist is back with another collection of songs ready for Halloween 2023, the latest of which is "Sweet Little Witch." The new track is this great mixture of oldies novelty Halloween songs, modern folk, and 90's alt-rock. This is a blending of styles that should not work at all, but instead makes for a song that is equally fun and creepy, which is just perfect for spooky season. You can listen to "Sweet Little Witch" below. Creepy Zeepy  is due out October 13 and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on Nicholas Burgess, check out the artist's website . Nicholas Burgess Covers Nirvana and Pearl Jam

Image
Boston's Nicholas Burgess has released a new two song single entitled 1993 . It features two covers of songs from 1993: Nirvana's submission to the Beavis and Butthead Do America soundtrack, "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" and Pearl Jam's "Daughter." "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" is one of my very favorite Nirvana songs, and this might be the first time I've heard it covered. Both songs are interesting takes on the originals, featuring more electronic instrumentation than you'd expect on covers of grunge icons, but Burgess makes it work. "I Hate Myself and Want to Die" keeps the venom and force of the original, while "Daughter" is even more subdued (and groovier!) than Pearl Jam's original. Plus, the Nirvana cover features Rainy from Sapling on backing vocals! You can listen to Nicholas Burgess cover Nirvana and Pearl Jam below. The songs re currently available via Bandcamp .
