congratulations - "Dr. Doctor"

Image
Photo by Leila-Mae Rummery congratulations are one of those bands that are thrilling for music writers, since they don't quite sound like anyone out there. Of course, that drives us crazy since it's very difficult to describe them. Their latest single, "Dr. Doctor," is heavy on funk and post-punk. It's undeniably dance friendly without sounding like any dance music out there. This is a killer party jam, even if most people would describe it as "weird." And it is weird, in a gloriously fun and creative way. Most bands that are this fun aren't creative, but luckily for us all congratulations were never told that. The band says of their latest single: "When we made this album, one of our main goals was idiosyncrasy - whilst we draw on a lot of influences, I truly believe no one could make this song but us. This song is for everyone trapped inside their own head, spiralling and catastrophising - we feel you. Just avoid this particular Doctor." ...

congratulations - "Fought 4 Love"

Photo by Josh Armstrong Brighton, UK's congratulations have a new single out that's as fun as it is unique. "Fought 4 Love" is an absurdly dance friendly indie rock song that has one of the hardest grooves in recent memory. It's definitely a rock song, although the dance side is just as apparent. The fuzzy guitars sound like they're more on the garage rock side of things, as is the guitar solo. But there's no denying how much "Fought 4 Love" grooves. It sounds almost like Jack White was heavily influenced by Deee-Lite and 70's disco. congratulations have the perfect song to bang your head to while busting out your finest dance moves. congratulations say of their latest single: “There are so many songs out there about love; falling in love, being in love, but what about falling out of love? No, not a breakup song, there are plenty of those, this is an anti-love song, realising that sometimes letting go of love is the best thing for you, that w...

congratulations - "This Life"

Image
Photo by Leila-Mae Rummery Based in Brighton, UK, congratulations have a new single out that's a party waiting to happen. "This Life" is a groove filled indie dance track that combines post-punk and electroclash. Plus, the whole thing has more of an edge to it than dance songs typically do. Part of the song is light and fun, and the other part has some grit to it. But, even the grittiest parts are still an absolute blast. Most dance music isn't creative or artsy, but congratulations have pulled off a fun party jam that doesn't quite sound like anyone else. "This Life" is kind of like a modern day version of Deee-Lite.  Leah Stanhope (vocals) says of the band's new single: “‘This Life’ is an ode to being delusional—you know, people who moan about having the worst time but like in reality like they've got a roof over their heads and food to eat, and ultimately, it’s not that deep.”  You can watch the video for "This Life" below.
