Live Shows: Murder By Death and Laura Jane Grace, Paradise Rock Club, Boston, MA 6/27/25

Murder By Death have always been one of those bands I've meant to get more into every time I hear them. I first saw them opening for Clutch back in 2008 and then saw them again with Sarah Shook & The Disarmers in 2019. They're the rare kind of band that can play with both of those artists and have it all make sense. As soon as Murder By Death announced that their just released and excellent Egg & Dart would be the band's final album along with a farewell tour, I knew it was now or never and headed out to the Paradise to see them one last time. Early on in Murder By Death's final show in Boston, singer/frontman Adam Turla announced the plan for the evening. They would be playing two songs from all ten of their albums plus a few more. As far as farewell tours go, you simply can't go wrong with that. It allowed the band to play moments from their entire twenty-five year career and gave fans of any of their periods to hear favorites.  One thing that has always s...

Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes - "Wearing Black"

Image
Photo by Bella Peterson Laura Jane Grace has released a new single with her latest musical project (which also features her wife Paris Campbell Grace, Jacopo "Jack" Fokas, and Orestis Lagadinos) just in time for Pride. "Wearing Black" is a punk rock rager about wearing black to the Pride parade. It's an intense and joyous song about acceptance that is perfect to both pogo and dance to. It's not quite a pop punk song, but it is filled with plenty of pop hooks and it's as catchy as anything else Grace has ever released.  You can watch the NSFW video for "Wearing Black" below. Adventure Club is due out July 18 on Polyvinyl Record Co., and is available for pre-order here . For more on Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes, check out the artist's website . Upcoming tour dates are below and include a June 27 show at the Paradise Rock Club in Boston opening for Murder By Death on their farewell tour. JUNE 13 — Garwood, NJ — Crossroads * 14 — Alban...

Photo by Bella Peterson Punk legend Laura Jane Grace has a new single out with her latest project, and if you've been a fan of her as a musician for any length of time, you're going to dig this one. Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes have released "Active Trauma," a song that is both a badass punk song and a pop song all at once. Grace is delivering her vocals with the edge and attitude that only she can over a killer alt-rock groove and guitar. Her wife and bandmate, Paris Campbell Grace, is providing both killer harmonies and gang vocals throughout, and this one is going to be irresistible even if you typically don't like punk. "Active Trauma" is going to work for fans of virtually any genre or subgenre of rock, and even some pop fans. You can listen to "Active Trauma" below. Adventure Club is due out July 18 on Polyvinyl, and is available to pre-order here . For more on Laura Jane Grace, check out the artist's website . Upcoming tour ...

Laura Jane Grace In The Trauma Tropes - "Mine Me Mine"

Image
Photo by Pinelopi Gerasimou Laura Jane Grace's latest musical project is Laura Jane Grace In The Trauma Tropes, which is a collaboration with her wife Paris Campbell Grace (vocals) and Greek musicians Jacopo "Jack" Fokas (bass) and Orestis Lagadinos (drums). The group formed while Grace was in Greece for a monthlong songwriting retreat through the Onassis Foundation. Their latest single, "Mine Me Mine," is a ninety-three second burst of some of the finest pop punk you've ever heard. It's a high energy and bouncy song railing against capitalism, so it's a territory Grace knows quite well. If you have a love of pop punk, particularly fast and political pop punk, "Mine Me Mine" is going to be a dream come true for you. This one is guaranteed to be stuck in your head for days to come, which you certainly won't be complaining about. You can listen to "Mine Me Mine" below. Adventure Club is due out July 18 on Polyvinyl, and is avail...

Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes - "Your God (God's Dick)"

Image
Photo by Vanessa S ö llner For her latest single, Laura Jane Grace has formed Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes with her wife Paris Campbell Grace and Athens, Greece based musicians Jacopo Fokas and Orestis Lagadinos. When you see the title of their new single, "Your God (God's Dick)," you might assume that it's filled with symbolism, or at least like an emo classic with a title that doesn't match the subject matter. You would be wrong. The chorus includes the line "Does your God have a big fat dick 'cause it feels like he's fucking me," and the song just keeps doubling down over and over again after that. Not to mention that it starts off sounding like a hymn and then changes over to a pop punk meets doo wop track. "Your God (God's Dick)" is an amazing song, if you're into this kind of thing. You can listen to "Your God (God's Dick)" (which is obviously NSFW) below. Laura Jane Grace in the Trauma Tropes have a...
