Kim Deal - "Nobody Loves You More"

Image
Photo by Alex Da Corte Alt-rock legend Kim Deal is set to release her first solo album on Friday, and since no one can wait until then, she's released another single from the album. "Nobody Loves You More" is surprising in that it's much more orchestral and jazz-like than anything we've heard from Deal previously, but somehow this makes the most sense for a Kim Deal solo project. It's reminding me of a more quiet, less bombastic version of Bjork's "It's Oh So Quiet." This is very different from Deal's previously released solo singles, which makes sense considering this is Kim Deal. I certainly wouldn't expect The Breeders' founder to do anything typical, and "Nobody Loves You More" is certainly not typical. You can watch the video for "Nobody Loves You More" below. The album Nobody Loves You More is set for release on November 22 on 4AD, and is available for pre-order here . For more on Kim Deal, check out the ...

Kim Deal - "A Good Time Pushed"

Photo by Steve Gullick The latest single from Kim Deal's upcoming solo album is more than a little melancholy. Not only is it about the beginning and end of a relationship, but it's the last Kim Deal song engineered by Steve Albini. "A Good Time Pushed" sounds the most like what you'd expect a solo Kim Deal single to sound like of all the singles released so far. It also sounds the most like The Breeders, probably since it also includes Jim Macpherson and Kelley Deal of The Breeders. "A Good Time Pushed" is a laid back and highly emotional 90's style alt-rock song. It keeps enough of the Deal sound to satisfy long time fans while being accessible enough that it could have been a crossover hit if it was released twenty-five years ago. You can watch the video for "A Good Time Pushed" below. Nobody Loves You More is due out November 22 on 4AD, and is available for pre-order here . Kim Deal - "Crystal Breath"

Photo by Alex Da Corte It turns out "Coast" wasn't just a one-off single, because we're about to get a solo album from Kim Deal. The alt-rock legend has released a new single, and while it isn't what we'd expect from Deal, it's completely a Kim Deal song. "Crystal Breath" is almost like a dance song. It definitely sounds more electronic than her previous musical projects, but that hardly makes the song a pop song. Instead, the song sounds kind of like the kind of rock meets electronic music from the late 90's and early 00's, but an updated version of that. This one is a lot of fun, and it's great to see an established artist like Deal trying out some new sounds. You can watch the video for "Crystal Breath" below.
