Hit Like a Girl featuring Bartees Strange - "Monsters"

Image
Image via Facebook New Jersey's Hit Like a Girl's new single, "Monsters," is solidly an alt-pop song. It's catchy and poppy, and has a lot of qualities fans of the pop music Jeff writes about will love. But "Monsters" also flat out rocks. It's a hard pop song, with swirling dream pop style guitars and pounding drums. Plus, it's an absolute epic. It starts off small and personal, and then bursts into the kind of stadium rock that would make U2 proud. And then it just gets bigger. The guest starring of Bartees Strange adds a fantastic extra voice for harmony and a new layer to this already robust song. You can watch the video for "Monsters" below. Heart Racer  is due out April 2 on Refresh Records. You can pre-order a copy here . For more on Hit Like a Girl, check out the artist's Facebook and Twitter .

Hit Like a Girl - "Boardwalk"

Image
Image via Facebook We've been digging Hit Like a Girl ever since we discovered the band back in 2019. Their new single, "Boardwalk," continues everything we've been loving about them. For an indie rock/alt-pop song, it sounds absolutely huge in the best possible way. It's wonderfully upbeat and bouncy, with a feeling of excitement and anticipation. The song is about a date singer Nicolle Maroulis went on at Christmas Town in Busch Gardens, so it's not quite a Christmas song, but Christmas adjacent enough to go on a playlist later this year. The song is ridiculously fun and beautiful, despite it being a fairly quick rock song. You can watch the video for "Boardwalk" below. Heart Racer  is due out April 2. You can pre-order the album via Bandcamp . The digital pre-order is only $1.00, so it's more than worth it! For more on Hit Like a Girl, check out the artist's Facebook and Twitter .

Hit Like A Girl - "It's Not Me"

If you've been loving New Jersey's Hit Like A Girl as much as we have, get ready for their latest single. "It's Not Me" is an ode to failed relationships, and it's absolutely epic. It's an indie rock/emo/pop song with giant, jangly guitars and even bigger choruses. It follows the loud/quiet/loud template to perfection, and even the quiet parts feel huge while still being intimate. The loud parts feel like such a release that Nicolle Maroulis is guiding us through a healing process to benefit all of us. "It's Not Me" is one of the best singles we've heard this year. You can listen to "It's Not Me" below. It's currently available now on Hit Like A Girl's Bandcamp . For more on Hit Like A Girl, check them out on Facebook . It’s Not Me by Hit Like A Girl

Friday Freebie: Hit Like a Girl - You Make Sense

Coming from Montclair, NJ, Hit Like a Girl play a fantastic version of indie rock and dream pop fronted by Nicolle Maroulis. Their debut album, You Make Sense , was released back in 2017. It's filled with eight fantastic songs dancing between the line of being pure pop and indie rock. "It's Always You" is a bouncy alternative pop/rock song that sounds like straightforward early Belly. "I'll Understand" slows it down a bit into an earnest near emo meets Lady Lamb song. They even bust out some killer power ballad adjacent material with "The Song I Hoped You'd Never Hear." You can listen to "It's Always You" below. You Make Sense is available now for the "Name your price" option over at Bandcamp . While not technically available for free, you also need to check out their 2018 album What Makes Love Last , which is available for $1.00 via Bandcamp . As always, if you choose the free or even $1.00 options, be sure to f...
