The Prefab Messiahs - "Prefab Holiday"

Image
The Prefab Messiahs have been covering some fairly serious issues in their music lately, so it's kind of nice to see Worcester, MA's favorite garage psych rockers cut loose with a fun holiday song. "Prefab Holiday" is a trippy garage rocker that's just a holiday song. It sounds like something straight out of the 1960's, with maybe a slightly more modern flair. It's filled with surf rock guitars and "woo-ooo-ooo"s to make The Beach Boys proud. This one is perfect for holiday playlists, and just about having a great holiday to avoid getting into a winter rut. You can watch the video for "Prefab Holiday" below. The song is available via Bandcamp . For more on The Prefab Messiahs, check out the band's Facebook .

The Prefab Messiahs - "Bubble"

Image
Worcester, MA's own Prefab Messiahs had their original run back from 1981-1983. The band reunited in 2012 and have been sporadically releasing new material since then. According to a press release, they are a "...  proto-lo-fi post-punk left-field garage-pop band ." Their latest single, "Bubble," is about living in your own echo chamber/bubble and only ever hearing from people that think just like you do. It's a classic psychedelic garage rocker. If you've ever enjoyed anything else we've brought to you from The Prefab Messiahs, you're going to like "Bubble." It's a trippy rock song with just enough of an edge to it. This type of music is completely timeless and could have come out anytime in the last sixty or so years. (Except for the Bowie reference, which means it can't be more than twenty six year old.) You can watch the video for "Bubble" below. Music for Concerned Citizens is due out July 9. You can pre-order you...

The Prefab Messiahs - "When Things Fall Apart"

Image
Worcester's finest psychedelic garage rockers The Prefab Messiahs are poised to celebrate their fortieth anniversary, and have new music to celebrate! "When Things Fall Apart" is exactly what we've come to expect from The Prefab Messiahs. It's insanely groovy, reveling in classic psychedelia without dipping into hippie territory. This is definitely psychedelic garage rock for weirdos. It's much more Frank Zappa than The Grateful Dead. What's truly great about "When Things Fall Apart" is that it's also covered in sugary pop, so imagine if The Archies partied with Zappa and then went on tour with ? and The Mysterians.  You can listen to "When Things Fall Apart" below. Music for Concerned Citizens will be out March 26. You can pre-order a copy via Bandcamp . For more on The Prefab Messiahs, check them out on Facebook . The Prefab Messiahs - "21st Century Failure"

Image
Our favorite classic garage rockers from Worcester, MA are back with a new song. In a world where most garage rock is about rocking, "21st Century Failure" gets much more political than most other bands in the genre. It's a psychedelic blast that mocks a lot of the tropes of modern living. It also includes the line "Get a new disease when you hear a sneeze" which is either great or terrible timing. Regardless, "21st Century Failure" is a killer psychedelic vintage garage rocker, and I think we could all use some straight up rock these days. You can watch the video for "21st Century Failure" below. The song is available now on The Prefab Messiahs's Bandcamp . For more on The Prefab Messiahs, check them out on Facebook and Twitter .

The Prefab Messiahs - "(Don't Give Up On) Beautiful Things"

Image
Worcester, MA's favorite reunited psychedelic garage rockers are back with a new single! Last week The Prefab Messiahs released a video for "(Don't Give Up On) Beautiful Things." The song, and video, and quite heavy on the psychedelic side of "psychedelic garage." You get some classic 60's style harmonizing, and everything is tied up into a beautifully swirly package. There is even a "Bah bah bah" in the chorus as catchy as anything The Archies ever wrote. But there is a great primal garage rock beat throughout, and some fierce guitars that come in like buzzsaws to draw in the non-hippies. You can watch the video for "(Don't Give Up On) Beautiful Things" below. The song is available now via Bandcamp . For more on The Prefab Messiahs, be sure to check them out on Facebook and Twitter .

The Prefab Messiahs - "Bring On the Robots"

Image
According to their Bandcamp, W orcester, MA's The Prefab Messiahs's are " Micro-legendary DIY Garage-Pop-Psych provocateurs!," which might be one of my favorite brand descriptions ever. They've released a brand new single, "Bring On the Robots," that asks the increasingly important questions of whether or not humanity sucks and if we should welcome the robots taking over. While we can't answer that question, we can describe the song. "Bring On the Robots" fits right in The Prefab Messiahs's brand of psychedelic garage rock, this one leaning more heavily into the psychedelic side of things. It's slower, and kind of like a power ballad without the power ever really kicking in. It has the intensity of a couple of stoners sitting around and discussing the upcoming robot revolution, which may be the perfect song for this subject. You can watch the video for "Bring On the Robots" below. It's currently available as a free...

The Prefab Messiahs - "Psychsploitation"

Image
Photo by Plastic Mynd Worcester's own The Prefab Messiahs have had an interesting career. The band originally ran from 1981 to 1983 and then was pretty much silent until 2015 when they reformed and released Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive. Since then, they've released a couple of singles, and in January are set to release another full length. Their first song off the upcoming album, "Psychsploitation," is exactly what we want from The Prefab Messiahs at this point. It's a blast of psychedelic garage rock that sounds like it's coming from a band that ran well before the 1980's. It's what I imagine The Monkees might have sounded like if the members had met organically and not on a television show about a band. Hidden in pop hooks and the psychedelic feel are these squealing guitars you wouldn't normally find in this style of music, which just adds to the entire crazed feel of the song. You can watch the video for "Psychsploitation" be...

The Prefab Messiahs - "Sometimes Sunnydaze"

Image
After taking nearly 32 years off, Worcester, MA's favorite psych-pop rockers have been much more active and are back with a new digital single and video, "Sometimes Sunnydaze." If you've been paying attention, The Prefab Messiahs bring this great blast of psychedelia to garage rock. "Sometimes Sunnydaze" tone both the psychedelic and the garage rock side of their sound. What's left is virtually perfect late 60s power pop. Think of Alex Chilton, but more on the lines of The Box Tops than Big Star. There are great instrumental breaks sprinkled throughout the song to remind you of the band's more rockin' side. Plus, it's a song about enjoying staying inside on beautiful days, so it's the perfect song for the upcoming season! You can watch the video for "Sometimes Sunnydaze" below. You can buy it now over at the band's Bandcamp page . For more on The Prefab Messiahs, be sure to check them out on Facebook .

The Prefab Messiahs - "The Man Who Killed Reality"

Image
Following up on 2015's reunion album, Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive , Worcester, MA's finest The Prefab Messiahs are back with a follow up single. According to singer Xerox Feinberg, the band "...  didn't have any interest in putting out an obvious PC political message song like cranky old folk singers...," but that's the world we live in currently. Bands with no previous political leanings are now feeling the need to speak out. The new single, "The Man Who Killed Reality," is an obvious anti-Trump song, and, just in case the listener didn't quite get it, the accompanying animated video drives it home that much more. What's interesting is "The Man Who Killed Reality" eschews the edgier, punk leaning sound of Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive  and has a more flow child 60s sound to it, despite their desire to not sound like "cranky old folk singers." Luckily, the lead guitar has this just out of tune Stooges meets Sgt. Pepper...

The Prefab Messiahs - Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive

Image
Coming 32 years after their break up, Worcester, MA's Prefab Messiahs are back with a new album, Keep Your Stupid Dreams Alive.  Reunion albums are usually pretty dubious, especially when a band hasn't released one in three decades. In the wake of a universally loved 30th anniversary tour, the band decided to give it another go in the studio. The Prefab Messiahs have this great unique sound, a blend of garage rock, psychedelic, and punk. They might be the only band to equally mix psychedelic and punk since the early days of The Stooges.  "Weirdoz Everywhere" is a standout track, with it's power pop chorus and guitars over a surf rock base. "College Radio" is an homage to how college stations are eager to give younger bands a chance. I think that's one thing that works about this new album. It's almost a concept album about not giving up on your hopes and dreams, no matter how ridiculous they may sound. Most people don't reform their bands...
