Tysk Tysk Task - "Home Now"

I'm admittedly a Tysk Tysk Task superfan, so I'm going to rave about virtually everything they release. That being said, they have something truly special with their latest single. "Home Now" is meant as a follow up to "Ocean Now" from 2022's You're Sorry More. This new song is truly gorgeous while still expressing raw emotion. It doesn't have that explosive quality that we typically associate with the Lowell band, but it's still powerful. "Home Now" is a slow burn, and it makes the noisier payoff towards the end matter even more. Rather than a typical loud/quiet/loud song, it's more quiet/less quiet/louder/less quiet/loud. The song is morphing through virtually its entire six minute length, and listening is a fully cathartic experience. There is less of Tysk Tysk Task's more current shoegaze sound in "Home Now" and more of a trip back to their more woodland grunge days, and even their indie folk era. I'm also going to implore you to take your time with this one. It only gets more intense with additional listens as you start to discover more and more layers within.

Samantha Hartsel (vocals, guitar) says of her band's new single:

"I lost my father in the fall of 2023 and of course, feel the ripples and waves of grief constantly in ways I never even imagined, in the smallest of ways: looking out the window to watch a bird my Dad hadn’t logged in his book before he passed; finding a neat rock on the forest floor I know he would have loved to add to our family 'cool rock' collection. Grief is a curious thing, small and major in so many ways. This song is not only about the grief of the loss of my family member but also about the loss of family members who have become estranged from me in my Dad’s passing, and for those who have succumbed to mental health and addiction struggles, or relapsed once/yet again. I am observing and seeing things in a way I never could, or did, before. The heartache from breakups and divorce I had felt before, yes, but this level of losing someone I admired so much who had such an impact on so many lives, not just my own, has been something very new to me, and this song is certainly one that helps me process it. With that said, this song encapsulates all those themes for me."
