Kevin Stevenson - "Saturday Morning Coming Down"

Image
The Shods are a fairly legendary band out of Lowell, MA. They played a rock n' roll/power pop combination with just enough of a punk edge to be able to play with bands like The Mighty Mighty Bosstones without seeming out of place. Singer Kevin Stevenson is back with his first new music in ages. "Saturday Morning Coming Down" has a very strong '70s classic rock feel with that slight punk edge that we love from The Shods. Plus, with the horn section it almost sounds like Bruce Springsteen jamming with The Clash. It's an older, wiser version of Kevin Stevenson that we're hearing, but if you've been a fan for a while there is still plenty to love. You can listen to "Saturday Morning Coming Down" below. The song will be on Kevin Stevenson's upcoming solo album, Reality Alley , due out this Fall on Rum Bar Records. For more on Kevin Stevenson, check out the artist on Facebook . The Shods - "Girl I Got You"

Photo via Facebook Back in March, we got a taste of new music from The Shods. Since then, they've started a GoFundMe to help pay for the recording of a new album. We now know a little of what the new record will sound like with the early release of "Girl I Got You." It's a very rough cut (it's not mixed or mastered, needs some more vocals, and there are some unrecorded string parts), but we'll take any new Shods songs we can get. It's definitely an "Unfinished/Rough Cut," but the foundation for a great power ballad is definitely there. Plus, hearing early, rough, demos for songs always make the finished product that much more interesting. You can listen to the unfinished version of "Girl I Got You" below. The Shods are still looking for some financial help to finish the song and album, which will be titled Exarchia . You can find their GoFundMe here . For more on The Shods, check out their Facebook .

The Shods - "Bad Man"

Image
Photo via Facebook Today's theme appears to be the distant suburbs of Boston. Out of seemingly nowhere comes "Bad Man," a new song from Lowell, MA's The Shods. Originally formed way back in 1993, I believe The Shods haven't had any new music since 2003's Tippy . The last time I saw them was back in 2015 when they played a one off show as part of TT the Bear's final weeks, which also served as a kind of farewell since singer Kevin Stevenson was moving to Europe (Italy or Greece, I can't seem to recall.) Well, The Shods are back! "Bad Man" screams Boston in the mid 90s. The Shods have always fit right in the space between punk and old school rock and roll. "Bad Man" is a bit more on the punk side and feels like they're auditioning for an opening slot for The Mighty Mighty Bosstones on this year's Hometown Throwdown, which they've played many, many times. It has a perfect gang shout along gang chorus that might actual...
