JAWWAAD featuring Contour and Yaajé - "Without You"

Image
Photo by Troy Ezequiel Montes Jawwaad Taylor (aka JAWWAAD) was a co-founder of The Young Mothers, the Texas/Scandinavian jazz collective that included multiple other genres in their sound. Now, JAWWAAD has his own album coming out, and the latest single is "Without You." This new single combines jazz, hip hop, and R&B in ways you've both heard and haven't heard before. This is an ultra-chill track that meanders through genres with ease. It never seems to lean towards any genre more than others, letting them all co-exist equally. It also features Contour and Yaajé  taking care of vocals throughout. JAWWAAD has a truly special sound that has the potential of becoming an all time favorite. You can listen to "Without You" below. Myth & Logic is due out November 13 on Sonic Transmissions and Sound Mind Body Labs, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on JAWWAAD, check out the artist on Instagram . Winter - "Without You"

Image
Photo by Sophie Hur The latest from Winter is a quiet and intimate song that crosses the border between pop and indie rock multiple times. "Without You" would probably mostly be considered indie pop and/or dream pop. It's a lovely song that leaves the listener feeling like they're in a floating, dreamlike state. To me, "Without You" sounds like Tori Amos dabbling in dream pop, although it does lean quite heavily into the pop side of the genre. Despite how lush the song is, Winter creates an intensely intimate feeling to the song, mostly through whispered verses. This song feels like it's going to end up being the bridge between eras of Winter's. Samira Winter (aka Winter) says of her latest single: “This song is diving into that feeling of longing, of what we call in portuguese ‘saudades.'  It's a word that is not translatable to English and describes a deep emotional state of nostalgic longing for something or someone that is absent, lost, o...

The Cavemen - "Without You"

Image
Photo via Facebook The Cavemen are a New Zealand band that makes garage punk rock that harkens back to artists like the Ramones. Their new-ish single, "Without You," has Johnny Ramone's guitar tone down perfectly, but the song is a little more unhinged than the Ramones ever let themselves get. The Cavemen are less polished than their punk forefathers, but no less catchy. Ok, maybe a little less, but that's by design. "Without You" is a fast and loose noisy punk rock song, and the kind you'd expect from a band that, according to their Bandcamp profile, "... formed in high school over a love of glue and wild rock 'n' roll." You can listen to "Without You" below. Ca$h 4 Scrap LP is due out February 2 on Slovenly Recordings, and can be pre-ordered through Bandcamp . The Sextones - "Without You"

Image
Photo by Calvin Hobson If you like classic soul, chances are you're going to like Reno, Nevada's The Sextones. The neo-soul band's latest single, "Without You," has this perfect quality that makes it sound like it's a lost track recorded back in the 60's or 70's. Part of it is the production style that puts that vintage sheen over the song, but The Sextones are clearly going for a classic sound. Everything about "Without You" just sounds classic. (Except for their name, which I can't imagine would have flown with record executives sixty years ago...) This is the kind of feel good song that most people would say they don't make anymore, unless you know where to look. You can listen to "Without You" below. Love Can't Be Borrowed is due out September 29 on Record Kicks, and is available for pre-order here . For more on The Sextones, check out the artist's website .
