WITCH Cover Talking Heads

Image
Photo by Izzie Austin BBE Music is releasing a Talking Heads tribute album early next year, and have made WITCH's (aka We Intend to Cause Havoc) version of "Once in a Lifetime" available to hear now. The Zamrock pioneers' version is an almost complete reworking of the art rock legends' original. It takes about thirty seconds for the music to truly reflect the original, which is just before the lyrics kick in. Of course, it wouldn't exactly be fitting to have a note-for-note cover of a Talking Heads song based on how revolutionary they were and still are. Plus, who would want a WITCH song that doesn't sound like WITCH? This is taking an art rock/punk classic and filtering it through a psychedelic Zamrock lens, and the results are as amazing as that sounds. You can listen to WITCH's cover of "Once in a Lifetime" below. Naive Melodies is due out January 23 on BBE Music, and is available for pre-order here . For more on WITCH, check out the band...

First Listen: New Releases for 17 May 2024

Artist : GUPPY Album : Something is Happening... Quick Thoughts : So GUPPY doesn't take things too seriously, but I forget how much fun some Big Dumb Indie Rock can be. "Texting and Driving" is a great song no matter what, but when you have a song about a 10 foot tall Nancy Pelosi, well... Listen, will this be everyone's cup of tea? Of course not. But the level of absolute joy that is just drenching its runtime is worth noting, and is something that will be on rotation here for quite a while to come. Songs of Note : "Dog (Made Me Do It)," "Mayor Pt. 2," "American Cowboy," "I'm Fighting a 10 Foot Tall Nancy Pelosi," "Texting and Driving," "Candied Pecans," "Nature Song" Artist : Stress Dolls Album : Queen of No Quick Thoughts : The debut album from Stress Dolls is a long-time coming, as the solo moniker provides a hell of a punch. A strong, robust vocal delivery that reminded me of Pa...

girl in red Covers Talking Heads

Image
Photo via Facebook Recently A24 announced Everyone's Getting Involved: A Tribute to Talking Heads' Stop Making Sense  which sees current artists covering songs from Talking Heads' classic concert film. The latest we can hear from the compilation is girl in red's take on "Girlfriend Is Better." girl in red's version is fairly faithful to the original, but it's also a modern take on the New Wave classic. It sees the artist stretching out of her normal sound to a more high energy and dance friendly party jam. It's a fun cover of a fun song, and that's all we can truly ask for. girl in red says of Talking Heads: “Talking Heads is an iconic band that helped define my identity when I was a teenager and they continue to inspire young people all around the world. Being a part of this tribute is so sick and I’m super grateful I was given the opportunity. Talking Heads forever!!!!” You can listen to girl in red's cover of "Girlfriend Is Better...

Wet Leg Cover Talking Heads

Image
Photo by Hollie Fernando Ok... we thought we were done talking about Wet Leg until their new album comes out Friday, but then I stumbled on a cover they did of Talking Head's "Psycho Killer." I mean... how am I supposed to not bring this to you all? I can't find much on this one, but it appears that it was done for the BBC. The best part about Wet Leg covering Talking Heads is just how perfect this is. It's one of those covers that's pure Wet Leg while still being faithful to the original. As with everything great with the Isle of Wright band, the pure joy they're feeling is audible in the music. This is a band that is having the time of their lives. Only on the "Run, run, run away" part does Rhian Teasdale mimic David Byrne, but who can resist that? You can listen to Wet Leg's version of "Psycho Killer" below. Their self-titled debut album will be out April 8. For more on Wet Leg, check out the band's website .
