Soraia - "Body in the Backyard"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek Philadelphia garage rockers Soraia are back with a brand new single. "Body in the Backyard" is an absolute ripper of a song. It's driven by a Stooges-style proto-punk guitar riff, filled with that certain kind of fuzz that digs itself deep into your soul. The whole song has a primal style to it and the only reason it sounds modern is that the production is just slightly more slick than it was in the late 60's. Mixing punk and garage rock is one of my favorite musical styles, and few do it as well as Soraia. Just wait until the extremely brief guitar solo kicks in and you'll be just as enraptured as we are. Lead vocalist ZouZou Mansour says of her band's upcoming EP: “We had a lot to say on this set of songs. We looked outward at the injustices in the world, but we also looked inward, addressing topics like feeling like, at times, we had to conform as artists. Doing this EP was liberating.” You can listen to "Body in the Backyard...

Soraia - "So Holy"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek Philadelphia's Soraia are a no nonsense rock and roll band. The quartet's latest single, "So Holy," is a hard rock song with no bells and whistles. It's the kind of song that's going to remind you of artists like Joan Jett and The Stooges. This is the kind of rock song that is just fun to listen to. It's loud and fast and heavy, but also surprisingly catchy. "So Holy" is a little punk and a little metal, but it's all rock and roll, and sometimes that's just what you need. Crank this one, bang your head, and pump your fist... Soraia is back with new music! Lead vocalist ZouZou Mansour says of the band's upcoming EP: “We had a lot to say on this set of songs. We looked outward at the injustices in the world, but we also looked inward, addressing topics like feeling like, at times, we had to conform as artists. Doing this EP was liberating.” You can watch the video for "So Holy" below. Confessions from ...

Soraia Covers Blondie

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek It feels like it's been a while since we brought you a cover song, so we can't pass up the latest single from Soraia. The Philadelphia rockers just released their version of "Union City Blue," which is a song I didn't recognize by name but instantly recognized as soon as it started. I've been a huge fan of their high intensity garage rock for a few years now, and this shows off another side of the band. Their version of "Union City Blue" stays intensely true to the original, just a little louder and and with slicker/more modern production. If you're unfamiliar with the fantastic sound of Soraia, this new single will have you delving deep into their back catalog. Frontwoman ZouZou Mansour says of the band's latest single: "I've wanted to cover 'Union City Blue' since I first heard it on the 'Sid and Nancy' soundtrack album I bought back in 2016. I loved that movie--starring Gary Oldman and Chlo...

Soraia - "Bang Them Bones"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek Philadelphia rockers Soraia have released a new single that is just pure rock and roll. "Bang Them Bones" is that kind of no nonsense rock that we tend to love here at If It's Too Loud... It's garage rock, but an amped up, stadium ready version of the genre. It's the kind of music that is all killer riffs, with frontwoman ZouZou Mansour just oozing cool with her vocals. The only thing that could make a song like "Bang Them Bones" any cooler of a rock song would be a burst of pyro during the chorus. If you're into metal adjacent garage rock, check out the latest from Soraia. ZouZou Mansour says of the band's latest single: "We love recording while we're touring in Sweden--and have done so every time we go. It always feels like we're just a little more 'beat up' mid-way through our tours there, so it's a good time to get some honest representation of ourselves recorded. This one was another song wri...

Soraia - "Wretch Like Me"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek For their latest single, Philadelphia's Soraia move slightly away from garage rock and move into the world of metal just a bit more. "Wretch Like Me" straight up rocks. There is still the edge of garage rock, but with the slickness of metal. There are also guitar solos in the song that could only exist in the world of heavy metal. This is a giant and at times theatrical rock song that shows Soraia is starting to aim higher than the clubs they've been inhabiting recently. This is the kind of song that is begging to be blasting out of amplifiers at festivals and arenas, and if they keep releasing singles like "Wretch Like Me," it will be sooner than later. You can watch the video for "Wretch Like Me" below. The single is out now via Wicked Cool Records. For more on Soraia, check out the band's website .

Soraia - "I Seek Fire"

Image
Photo by Cassandra Panek Philadelphia's Soraia is our latest favorite modern garage rock artist. The three piece have recently released a new single, "I Seek Fire." The song has that classic garage rock sound, but it also brings a certain level of 80's metal and 70's glam rock theatricality to it you don't normally get with garage rock. Along with that fuzzy, classic garage rock sound, I'm getting a certain Joan Jett and early Alice Cooper sound with this one, with maybe more than a little Heart thrown in. This is garage rock out of the garage and aiming for arenas. "I Seek Fire" is just pure no nonsense rock 'n' roll with zero pretention. ZouZou Mansour, lead singer and lyricist, says of the band's new song: "The original idea behind ‘I Seek Fire’ came from reading a Rumi quote: 'Set your life on fire. Seek those who fan your flames.' A mix of that personal desire plus a healthy dose of romantic and tragic love ideas flo...
