Sparxsea - "Essence of Me"

Image
Photo by Will Bradford We've been enjoying the singles that Sparxsea has released from her upcoming debut album, but the latest might be our favorite so far. "Essence of Me" is a soulful slice of indie pop. It's pop music laced with some 90's R&B, but with this interesting quality that keeps the song having an indie feel. Sure, this is pop music, but that doesn't mean it has to be Top 40 style mainstream pop. This is more Sarah McLachlan than Taylor Swift, and is practically begging for a Lilith Fair revival to truly shine.  Sparxsea says of her latest single: “Although my life is blessed with beauty and love, the difficulty of growing up with alcoholic parents, and fearing the constant fighting for 18 years, created a huge people-pleaser out of me. Safety became my happiness. I built an existence by monitoring my surroundings, reacting for peaceful outcomes, and staying silent with my own desires and emotions. Therefore, I built a ‘safe’ life that harbore...

Sparxsea - "Daylight"

Photo Will Bradford Maine's Sparxsea's latest single is a charity single for Ever After Mustang Rescue ranch in Biddeford, ME. In 2022, the matriarch and director of Ever After passed away and are now in need for donations and volunteers to take care of the remaining horses.  "Daylight" is a little more straightforward than the music we've covered of Sparxsea's previously. It's a mixture of singer-songwriter meets modern indie pop. This one is going to have some serious crossover appeal that is lovely with just a slight groove. It's the type of song that would have easily found a home on the Lilith Fair stage back in the 90's, but with a modern update. Plus, if you're looking for indie cred, the track features original Morphine drummer Jerome Deupree! Sparxsea says of her latest single: “I’d dream of these beautiful gardens and think they were so far away. One day I realized we are both the gardens and the light. The light to grow that garden i...

Sparxsea - "Roses in the Street"

Photo by Will Bradford Hailing from Maine, Sparxsea is making indie-pop that doesn't quite sound like anyone else. Her latest single, "Roses in the Street," combines piano syths, acoustic guitars, and programmed drum beats into a surprisingly organic singer-songwriter goes indie pop song. The song merges such diverse sounds into such a compelling composition that is strikingly fresh yet familiar. It's like a melding of trip hop, mainstream 90's folk-rock, and modern indie pop. Sparxsea feels like one of those artists that you're either going to dislike or be infatuated with, with very little in between. Sparxsea says of her latest single: “This is a ‘darkest before the dawn’ song. That last hour before dawn, before that rose breaks through the concrete into the street and becomes something beautiful for people to appreciate. I write about what I need to get through hard times, words that I need to hear. It's a song about abundance. There’s enough love out ...
