Cloned Apparition - "Holly Green"
Photo by Alice Hirsch Seeing as I was a teenager in the 90's, I get pretty protective over the term "grunge." Looking back, grunge was an all encompassing term to describe fuzzy and aggressive alt-rock in the early 90's, but it seems like it's being used to describe any band that was influenced by the 90's lately. That being said, the latest from Cloned Apparition are actually grunge. "Holly Green" is filled with a giant and crunchy guitar tone that will remind you of your favorite Seattle bands. There is also the swirl of shoegaze and an edge reminiscent of alternative metal. (I made a big deal about "Holly Green" being actual grunge and here I am about to compare it to two non-metal bands...) This one sounds like a melding of Hum and Helmet.
