"If I Had the Hand of God" sounds like classic Jacklin. It's a little folk, a little country, but mostly indie singer-songwriter. It has a perfect laid back feel, and Jacklin's vocals are simply mesmerizing on this one. While all of her singles sound like the one that could break her into a superstar, "If I Had the Hand of God" particularly feels like the one that could do it. There's some huge crossover appeal, and this sounds like the song that's going to be the huge sing-a-long song for her upcoming tour. Photo by Izzie Austin I've been a huge fan of Julia Jacklin's since I first heard "Pool Party" in 2016 (It's been ten years!!?!?!?), and her latest single is one of her absolute finest. "The Hardest Thing" is a swoon worthy song that stands out in a catalog of swoon worthy songs. It also could be Jacklin's most mainstream single yet while also being her strangest. Something about the song swirls between being accessible and being artsy, but this is a prime example of a modern singer-songwriter goes alt-rock and folk at the same time. Depending on your mood, "The Hardest Thing" can come across as either uplifting and positive or deeply sad, and that's one of my personal favorite things that music can do. "I Wish" is primarily Jacklin's vocals and guitar (as well as some harmonies provided by fellow Australians Elsie and Maggie Rigby of The Maes), and it's one of the most captivating of her career. The song grabs you as soon as Jacklin's vocals start, and I cannot stress how mesmerizing "I Wish" is. The song feels fully fleshed out and impossibly intimate, and only deepens our love for Jacklin's music. We're going to be excited any time Jacklin is releasing a new full length, and "I Wish" has us thrilled for summer to end so we can hear it.
