The Problem With Kids Today - "All I Wanna Be"

Image
Photo by Sam Carlson The latest single from The Problem With Kids Today comes so close to being a total and complete sonic trainwreck, but the near miss is what makes "All I Wanna Be" such a great song. The New Haven, CT trio have crafted a song that is as discordant as it is catchy. There's a strong undercurrent of garage rock and protopunk throughout the song, as well as a post punk beat. But The Problem With Kids Today have also thrown in such wonderfully jangly guitars that you're drawn in even though "All I Wanna Be" seems to want to push you away. It's a much more complicated song than you'd expect in a little over three minutes, and that's one of the reasons we're starting to love this band. You can listen to "All I Wanna Be" below. Born to Rock is due out February 9, and is available to pre-order through Bandcamp . For more on The Problem With Kids Today, check out the band on Facebook and Instagram . Upcoming tour dates ar...

The Problem With Kids Today - "Leather Jacket Blues"

Photo by Sam Carlson Sometimes you just want a punk song, and that's exactly what New Haven, CT's The Problem With Kids Today gift us with their new single. "Leather Jacket Blues" is a fast and not quite furious song that clocks in at under ninety seconds. It's the kind of punk song sure to inspire mosh pits, but the fun kind where no one is trying to hurt anyone else. It's filled with noisy guitar and vocals you can't quite figure out. "Leather Jacket Blues" is just pure fun in a compact song that you'll wish was at least thirty seconds longer. "The Great" Tate Brooks (vocals/guitar) says of the new song: "We wanted to dance and shout and bang into each other, so we wrote a song that does exactly that." You can watch the video for "Leather Jacket Blues" below. Born to Rock is due out February 9 and is available for pre-order on Bandcamp . The Problem With Kids Today - "What Else Could I Say"

Photo by Sam Carlson Hailing from New Haven, CT, The Problem With Kids Today are an indie punk band, but one that defies the stereotypes of that genre. Their latest single, "What Else Could I Say," has a little more of a vintage garage rock sound. That is more due to the heavy use of 60's style keyboards in the song more than a fuzz to the guitar. In fact, the guitar has a very clean sound to it, which is surprising for both garage rock and indie punk. The most traditional punk aspect of the song are the vocals. "The Great" Tate Brooks' vocal style is somewhere between a chant and a yelp, and The Problem With Kids Today utilize liberal gang vocals on "What Else Could I Say." The song is pretty straightforward for an indie punk song, but it's of the wall for garage rock. Tate Brooks says of his band's new song: "'What Else Can I Say' is an indie punk anthem, written out of frustration both metaphorically and literally. It broke ...
