Claire Morales - "Low"

Last month we brought you "YVB" from Claire Morales, and were blown away by the intense psychedelic juggernaut of a song. For her latest single, "Low," Morales went in a different direction. The new single is more of an alt-rock singer-songwriter track with psychedelic flairs. It's more laid back and quietly intense than its predecessor, but no less compelling. The press release for "Low" says that it's for fans of Jefferson Airplane, PJ Harvey, Fleetwood Mac, and Mazzy Starr, and I can certainly agree with all of those. The only difference is while those artists have all been around for over thirty years, "Low" sounds much more modern. There are definitely threads of all of those in Morales' latest, but she takes all of those pieces to create an epic in her own style.
Claire Morales says of her latest single:
“In an album full of epic drama, boundless energy, and moments of glory, ‘Low’ is the reprieve—the coming down. It’s the hero’s fall, the sound of turning inward and steeping in insecurity, disconnection, and pain. It’s the quiet darkness that lingers on the edges of even our most joyful moments—the secret wound we all carry and think no one else could possibly understand.
“I wrote this song to help people feel less alone, less ashamed of their inner worlds. It’s a reminder that perfection is an illusion—boring and destructive—and that our flaws are what make us real, lovable, and worthy. I often write in second person because it feels like giving advice to a friend, or like your higher self reminding you of the truth.”
You can listen to "Low" below. Lost in the Desert is due out August 19, and is available for pre-order through Bandcamp. For more on Claire Morales, check out the artist's website.
