Cash and Skye are the duo of Henri Cash and Sophia Skye. You might know Henri Cash from Starcrawler, and we're legally obligated to mention that Sophia Skye is the daughter of Rilo Kiley bassist Pierre de Reeder. (She refers to herself as a "C-list nepo-baby.") Their latest single, "Pasadena Girls," doesn't sound much like either of those bands. Instead, it's more along the lines of an alt-country or indie folk version of Lucinda Williams and Gram Parsons. It's so close to being a mainstream version of alt-country, but it's just slightly too off kilter for that. This is the type of song that will make you wonder what you just listened to the first time you hear it, but will make you fall in love after the second time.
Sophia Skye says of her band's new single:
"Being born and raised in Pasadena, I have a lot of love for my hometown. There are a lot of cultural cornerstones we are known for, like the formation of Van Halen or being the first place Michael Jackson ever moon walked. And yet, there are some things people don’t know about us quite yet."
You can listen to "Pasadena Girls" below. Just a Stranger is due out February 21 and is available for pre-order here. For more on Cash and Skye, check out the artist on Instagram.
